1.0 INTRODUCTION

A database is a collection of information that is organised so that it can be easily accessed, managed, and updated. Databases can contain several types of content which is bibliographics, full-text, numeric, and images. This is most commonly done in a table because of its easy to read data, it ability to compare and find data. Online database is a web based filling designed to be store information. The database can be accessed by web scripts and are purchased by subscription. The best way to seach some information of the articles is by using electronic database. The internet is just at our finger tips. Thus, very often there is no need to leave the comfort of your home in order to to find necessary information. The internet make life easier, and students also get the benefits of it. Nowdays, writing tasks are very common in high school, colleges and universities. Students desperate to find reliable sources of information. With online databases make students easily find reliable sources that can be use in their studies. For example Perpustakaan Tun Abdul Razak (PTAR) provide online databases to students that can be easily access by uitm students and lecturer. There are various reference materials which may enchance knowledge and research study result. Each online database has it own characteristic.

2.0 Online Database

Online database is a database from local network of the internet. Generally, databases refer to information which has been organized into a specific subject or type. The data is stored locally on an individual computer or its attached storage (such as a CD). Online databases are hosted on websites, made available as software as a service products accessible via a web browser.

2.1 Emeral Insight

The first publishing outlets of emerald is from a group of academics from the University of Bradford School of Management. The first headsquarters located at Bingley. Throughout its history, it has enjoyed outstanding international exposure. We can get information through basic search and we can select the date range from what year we want. We also have six choice to select according to what we want.

Step to get information through Basic Search using Wildcard Method, Asterisk (*) symbol and below attach is front page for Advance Search and now we use under Journal articles. Search word “elect*” to search related information for that word.

Advance search using Truncation

Step to get the information through Advance Search using Truncation Method. Below is Advance Search for Emerald insight using Truncation Method. Type word “ele”*ct” to get the related information in journal articles.

Advance Search using Boolean

Below attach is the advance search steps we use to find the journal article. In advance search, method Boolean is already in front of page. Boolean search can be define as a search using the electronic search where the Boolean operator AND,OR, and NOT is introduced in the search statement combining the keywords.

3.0 STEP TO ACCESSING ONLINE DATABASE

Step 1: Log in at https://login.ezaccess.library.uitm.edu.my/login . Enter correctly your username and password in the colloum and click log in.

Step 2: You are now in Database List By Format webpage. By clicking link “Online Database”, you will find to online database you search for such as Emeral Inside.

Step 3: Click on require Online Database based on your reference topic and subject. We wish to refer on benefits of sports reference material. Thus, we have chosen Emerald Inside .

Step 4: You will transferred to Emeral Inside in new window. You are now in Emeral Insight official Website. Bear in mind, password and id is not required, as you have logged in earlier via Ezaccess.

Step 5: You can now start your searching what you want. You also can use searching methods like Boolean, Truncation, Wildcard and Advance Search. Key in your subject and then click SEARCH.

Step 6: The result of searching has been displayed. You have the choice to select best result that you want. The result show 17000 search results. You also can view the summary and details. When you already choose click one of the result.

Step 7: You can also download and print the article by click the (PDF) to transfer bibliography details to Endnotes software.

Step 8: The file is now yours. Ready to be print and the original downloaded file is attached.
