Organizational Culture and Leadership Managing and Leading in Business...

Description

My current employer, Parkview Care Center, is one of the many long-term care facilities of Life Care Centers of America. Life Care Centers of America operates and manages more than 200 skilled nursing, rehabilitation, Alzheimer’s, and senior living campuses in 28 different states. The organization’s mission statement is “Life Care Centers of America is committed to being a premier provider of long-term health care. It is our desire to be the facility of choice in any community in which we operate. Our programs, services, and facilities must be designed and operated with superior quality in order to satisfy the needs of our customers.” The organization’s main priority is the residents that we care for. “We believe our residents are our highest priority. We believe in the preservation of dignity, self-respect, and resident rights in a loving and caring environment. We believe in the resident-centered approach to care in which the total needs of the residents are met. The resident’s family is encouraged to become closely involved with the center in meeting the resident’s needs.” These are just a few of the values that we have to our residents. I’ve been working in this facility for almost three years, and I see the mission statement as well as the vision and values being reflected every day. Every employee goes above and beyond to ensure that the residents get the best care. The residents are involved in their treatment plans and can communicate their needs and wants with the staff. Employees also make sure that the resident understands their resident rights. We encourage the residents to attend activities to guarantee socialization and help improve daily living skills. Cultural leadership impacts the day-to-day functions in a nursing home. Every department has their own job duties, but we are all expected to chip in for the care of our residents. If a call light is on, we are expected to answer, no matter what role you play in the workplace. If the CNA’s need help passing lunch or dinner trays, everyone is there to help. Anything that revolves around the resident’s care, is meant to be everyone’s job/responsibility.

Every employee is there for the resident and together, we can ensure that they are comfortable and happy in their home. The communication is effective for the most part, although, there is always room for improvement in the healthcare field. One thing that needs to improve is empowerment and this would help establish a more effective work environment for everyone. As a democratic or participative leader, I would be able to build trust between myself and my employees. I would also involve my team members and receive feedback before making any final decisions. There are several personality traits that I have that I believe would make me a good leader. These include the fact that I’m organized, agreeable, creative, kind, trusting, and goal oriented. My leadership style fits into an organizational culture because I would be encouraging employees to grow and develop goals as well as following the company mission’s and values....
