Patients level of pain • Analgesia use • Rest pain • Sleep disturbance
Disability level • Walking distance • Activities of daily living ○ Dressing ○ Bathing • Impact of arthritic hip on hobbies
Knee Injuries • Meniscal ○ Twisting force on loaded knee ▪ Squatting ▪ Football ○ Pain is localized ○ Effusion or swelling ○ Catching or locking sensation ○ Feel as if knee is about to give way ▪ Loose meniscal fragment caught in knee • Temporary knee locking after rising from sitting ○ Spontaneously resolves ○ Trick manoueuvre to relieve the issue ○ Pseudo locking ▪ Arhtritis not meniscal • ACL ○ Higher rotation force ○ Turning upper body laterally on plated food ▪ Football, rugby, skiiing ○ Pop head or felt ○ Haemarthrosis within an hour ○ Deep pain in knee ○ Rotatory instability = Knee giving way when turning • MCL ○ Valgus stress ▪ Rugby tackle from side ○ Might also damage ACL and lateral tibial plataeu fracture • PCL ○ Direct blow to anterior tibia with flexed knee ○ Motorcycle injury ○ Hypertension • LCL ○ Varus stress ○ May also damage PCL
