Description

Part A Goal Setting is one of the most important way of pushing an athlete to focus on the success rather than focusing on avoiding the failure. Although one of the most recent studıes conducted by Sarah Dean in 2016 suggest that there is not enough evidence to suggest Goal Setting Technique (GST), another study stated that it impacts intrinsic motivation and aids patient in learning new skills by increasing the comprehensive ability in their brains (Beal, 2017) Sometimes when the goals are too complicated and too many in numbers, it would seem harder to achieve and this might lead to discourage the client. One way of solving this would divide the goals into smaller and realistic objectives. This type of goal setting task is known to follow a Smart principle which encourages the individual to achieve the best with setting simple but challenging tasks. In the diagram below you can see what smart principle stands for; Specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-related. SMART principle is first introduced by Doran (1981) and it is accepted as a standard for setting effective and measurable objectives (short-term goals)
