2 Pennsylvania and Auburn Prison styles Pros and cons of the Pennsylvania and Auburn Prison styles Introduction Pennsylvania and Auburn Prison styles were beliefs based on criminal habits that were reinforced and learned from other criminals. According to (Rubin, 2017), argues that the Pennsylvania system which was a Philadelphia society is a penal method that focuses on solitary confinement fosters penitence principle and encourages reformation. The Walnut Street Jail was the first Pennsylvania institution built in America in 1790. It aimed to change the bad treatment of detained criminals. On the other hand, according to (Rubin, 2017), states that Auburn system also called Social and Silent system is a penal method that came up in the 19th century whereby people worked at day time and were kept in solitary confinement during the night. However, different states and countries are adopting one or the other of the prevailing systems and are incurring great expense in buildings and arrangements. Therefore, it can be compared which system would be favourable to prisoners by describing the exercises done by prisoners, the construction cost of the Pennsylvania and Auburn systems and their contributions either positive or negative towards the economy of states and countries. Arguing for the Pennsylvania system, prisoners were not imposed upon irksome and painful exercises whereas in the Auburn system prisoners are exposed to such exercises such as working in the tread-mill, mines, gullies etc. Therefore, this point brings up the Pennsylvania system to be favourable to prisoners since they are not mistreated as compared to the Auburn system. However, considering the Auburn system which was cheap to introduce in many states and countries, it offered a good opportunity for vocational training and brought more production for the revenue to the states.

3 Pennsylvania and Auburn Prison styles

The Pennsylvania system was expensive to establish it in a country or a state as compared to the Auburn system. This has turned the scale with some who admit the superiority of its discipline. Hence it is fairly presumed that this would have been adopted in several instances in states and countries if it could have been shown that the profits to the state would have equalled those which the Auburn system promises. The Auburn system provided more oriented factory setting that allowed for mass production through economies of scale which was more cost-effective as compared to Pennsylvania. In the Pennsylvania system, the inmates were given tools and instruments to work in their cells. Conclusion We can come into conclusion that the Auburn system style would be effective today compared to the Pennsylvania system. This is because it generates income to states and countries, gives the detainees vocational training which would change their lives after their sentences. In my opinion, the Auburn system leads me to believe that, it is easy for the prisoners and criminals to reform which makes the system to fit into the economic and social needs of today's society.
