A-B-C Dimensions of Personal Identity The A dimension of personality means characteristics that a person is born with; such as, age, gender, culture, ethnicity, race, and language (Arredondo et al., 1996). For my A dimension I chose two photos, one being of the number 23 in pink balloons. That is a representation of my age, I see it as more than just that though. Some 23-year-old women live a different life, my life is that of a balloon, floating freely while being grounded. My second photo for my A dimension is the Jamaican flag. Both of my parents were born in Jamaica, making me, born in the states a

beautiful, Jamaican, American. Knowing my ethnicity and embracing my culture allows me to be interesting, ambitious and relatable. The B dimensions are less visible and are developmental in nature: They include educational background, geographic location, hobbies/recreation, healthcare practices/beliefs, religion/spirituality, military experience, relationship status, and work experience (Arredondo et al, 1996). The photos representing my B dimension are the textbooks and the image of a human figure in a position of meditation. The textbooks represent my continuing education after high school and the fact that my education is never ending. The photo of the human figure is representing my spirituality, which affects how I treat others and how I respond to situations. My education and spirituality are a large part of my identity because it is something that will not change, it will stick with me throughout life. The C dimensions emphasize historical contexts and external forces that individuals and families must deal with (Arredondo et al, 1996). I utilized a google image of someone in a white coat, with a stethoscope around their neck and another in a suit. That image is a representation of the cultural push I had to endure while in school. I was expected to be something, I could never go for some passion for fashion or art because my family would wonder why I am not a doctor or a Lawyer. Even deciding to pursue education, the pay grade is what matter the most in society. My other image is of dirty hands, the hands in the photo are those of someone who is white and it has always been true that those of minorities have to work harder to get where they want to be. It was instilled in me that I must work twice as hard and strive to over achieve so I’m never faced with competition when it comes to credentials or what I bring to the table. Personal Identity: Effect on the Classroom

tomorrow. Even the parts that may have seemed toxic to my character made me so much better. I truly believe living life as a minority and especially living the life of a child whose parents were not born in the United States is something, I am thankful for. I am able to utilize each aspect of those dimensions of my identity and apply it to the world and my career. My identity will allow me to think of the kids who may have issues relating to scenarios in class or assignments. For example, some students may not have their parents or just one parent I try not to assume that everyone has both parents active in their lives or assume that the parents spend ample amount of time with their kids. I often see people putting other parents down for not being around for their kids as often as others but most of them do not have a choice. My parents had to work very hard to give me a great life and often times I would be home for a few hours alone coming home from school or I would be under supervision with an adult who is not my parent. I always think generally, yet I weigh out the differences. When I would create lesson plans and view the class profile, I would think wisely about the activities I chose, how I would present and demonstrate them, as well as the materials I choose for these activities. The best part about y identity that would benefit the culture of the class is love and respect for everyone around you, even those who differ from you or face a different struggle. Respect amongst students goes a long way in a classroom.
