Pharm HESI Review Basics  Peak + trough o Peak: draw after medication is administered (30 min) o Trough: before the next administration (30 min) Ferrous Sulfate –Iron  Drink through a straw (can stain teeth); take w meal!  Treats iron-deficient anemia  Dark, tarry stools = normal! Beta Blockers Musculoskeletal Medications  Myasthenia Gravis o Pyridostigmine (Mestinon) – Ach inhibitor  Baclofen o Muscle relaxant; can cause sedation + seizures  Paralytic agent (used during surgery): succinylcholine o Skeletal muscle relaxation, resp depression, paralysis Blood Pressure Medication  Hypotension o Dopamine (Intropin) – increased renal perfusion – therefore increases UO + BP  An increase in UO indicated med is effective  Hypertension o Calcium channel blockers: “dipine” “pamil” “fradil”  They decrease HR, so watch for HR before admin  EX: Calan, Cardizem (diltiazem) o Hypertensive crisis: IV nitro Heart Medication  Digoxin*** o Toxicity  If pt is bradycardic (...
