Female Reproductive System (FRS) 1. Name the 4 main different parts of the female reproductive system.  Ovaries  Fallopian tubes  Uterus  breast 2. Using your own words, describe the hormonal cycle of the FRS.  The cycle of the female reproductive system occurs about every 28 days and begins on the first day of your period. This is when the body starts to stimulate GRNH to start with the development of FSH and LH that trigger ovulations, which typically happens between day 11-14. After ovulation the body produces progesterone to support a pregnancy if it forms.

Male Reproductive System (MRS) 1. Name the 6 main parts of the male reproductive system.      

2. Using your own words, describe the hormonal cycle of the MRS. 

The hormonal cycle of the male reproduction system starts at first with FSH and LH which stimulates the reproductive organs to start making sperm cells, as well as, the stimulation of testosterone that aids in the development of sperm cells. Testosterone is also responsible for the development of male secondary sex characteristics.

Urinary Tract 1. In your own words, describe how urine is produced and the process by which it is expelled from the body. 

Urine is produced by the kidneys when they are trying to excrete toxins from the body, the urine and toxins are then sent down the ureters and into the bladder. The bladder holds these toxins until the brain gets a single that it is time to empty the bladder. This then happen when the urine from the bladder by sending this down the urethra and out of the body.

Goals for Drug Therapy I. FEMALE REPRODUCTIVE DISORDERS What are the goals for drug therapy for Female Reproductive Disorders?



Contraception o To prevent unwanted pregnancy and help to control abnormal uterine bleeding, as well as painful periods.



Menopause o To replace estrogen that was loss due to menopause and relieve the symptoms that are caused by menopause, such as hot flashes, vaginal dryness, hair loss, etc.



Endometrial Hyperplasia and Endometriosis o To increase the FSH and LH production to make the body believe that it has entered early menopause to help decrease the endometriosis growth, fibroid growth and aid in males with advanced prostate cancer

d. Infertility o

Given to promote menses, ovulation, and fertilization of ovum so that pregnancy can occur and be sustained.

e. Inducing Uterine Contractions o

Goal is to promote uterine contractions to help with the stimulation of labor and to also be used when treating patients for PPH after delivery to help uterus to firm up and contract down.

f. Stopping Uterine Contractions o

To stop over stimulation of contractions in patients that are having pre-term labor or have a uterus that is overstimulated due to induction of labor

g. Accelerating Fetal Lung Maturity o

To increase to fetal lung development production so that when babies are born early, they are able to reduce lung and breathing complications.

h. Preventing and Treating Seizure Activity o

Neurological protectant given to mothers in preterm labor and to treat preeclampsia to prevent eclampsia (SEIZURE)

II. MALE REPRODUCTIVE DISORDERS AND GENITOURINARY DISORDERS What are the goals for drug therapy for Male Reproductive Disorders and Genitourinary Disorders? a. Male hypogonadism o Used to increase testosterone levels to treat delayed puberty and testicular dysfunction b. Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy o

Reduces the risk of prostate cancer, treatment for male hair loss, relaxation of the smooth muscles in the prostate gland and outlet bladder to aid in increasing the outflow and stream of urine. Also helps to decrease the symptoms such as urinary frequency, urgency and nocturia.

c. Erectile Dysfunction o

To stimulate the body to release cGMP enzyme which causes smooth muscles and arteries to the penis to relax, causing spaces in the corpus colosseum to fill with blood allowing the patient to have and sustain an erection

III. GENITOURINARY DISORDERS (MALE AND/OR FEMALE) What are the goals for drug therapy for Genitourinary Disorders (Male and/or Female)? 3

a. Urinary Incontinence/Overactive Bladder (OAB) o

Helps the bladder to relax and causes contraction of the internal sphincter to allow urine to stay in the bladder and prevent urinary incontinence

b. Urinary Retention o

Causes the bladder to contract and release internal sphincter allowing urine to pass through urethra and expel through the urethral opening
