Description

1. What does the document want to convey? I had read the complete version of the Act of Declaration of Philippine Independence when I was in Senior High School, so I want to include the summary of the other things that this document intends to convey. First, it wants to convey a long list of complaints against the Spanish government from that time back to the arrival of Ferdinand Magellan in 1521. Also, it contains information that declares Emilio Aguinaldo as someone who will be the head of the nation. Another, it informs us of the importance of the Philippine National flag and the meaning of every element found in the flag. Last and more importantly, the document wants to convey the declaration of Philippine Dependence. 2. How did the revolutionaries regard Aguinaldo based on the document? They recognized Don Emilio Aguinaldo as an instrument chosen by God to become the Supreme Head of the nation. In my understanding, at that time, Don Emilio Aguinaldo is one of their hope, as they regarded him as someone who will effectuate the redemption of our unfortunate country. 3. According to the document, what do the symbols in the Philippine flag represent? The Philippine flag is one of the symbols of our freedom and independence. Importantly, it is a symbol that we are a nation as we used the same flag all over the country. The meanings of the elements present in the flag are the following: 1. The white triangle signifies the famous Society of the "Katipunan," which employs its blood compact and inspires the masses to rise in revolution; 2. The three stars symbolize the three principal Islands of these Archipelago - Luzon, Mindanao, and Panay, where the revolutionary movement started; 3. The sun represents the gigantic step made by the country's son towards the path of Progress and Civilization; 4. The eight rays signify the eight provinces - Manila, Cavite, Bulacan, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Bataan, Laguna, and Batangas - which declares themselves in a state of war as soon as the first revolt was initiated, and 5. The colors of Blue, Red, and White, commemorating the United States of America's flag, as a manifestation of our profound gratitude towards this Great Nation for its disinterested protection that it lent us and continues lending us.

4. How did the Filipinos regard the United States according to the document? The Filipinos regard the United States of America as a Powerful and Humanitarian Nation. A country that is not influenced by considerations of personal advantage but still protects the Philippines. A country that is so important that our flags' colors tend to commemorate them and a manifestation of gratitude. 5. What is the importance of this document in the history of our country? The "Declaration of Philippine Independence" is a document and proof that revolutionary forces under General Emilio Aguinaldo proclaimed the Philippine Islands' sovereignty and autonomy from Spain's pilgrim rule. It is physical evidence of one of the most important milestones in Philippine history. It is not just a mere document but also something that mirrors our noble ancestors' courage, struggles, and sacrifices. The document might remind us of our dark past, but the thought of having our freedoms after the hardships we've been through makes it all worth it and priceless. More importantly, as long as this document is passed in the next generation, we will always be reminded to fight for our freedom whatever it takes as our ancestors and our heroes did not die to let other countries control and fool us. May we learn from them as citizens of the Philippines.
