1. Camus explains that the absurd is related to the fact that we do not inherently have knowledge of the meaning of our lives, and instead are faced with an abyss. He illustrates in “The Myth of Sisyphus,” a story of an absurd task: summarize this story and explain what its message is. In “The Myth of Sisyphus,” the gods gave Sisyphus an absurd task to roll a rock to the top of a mountain. The Gods, having knowledge that the rock was way too heavy was a perfect punishment in their opinion. Sisyphus would never succeed the task given to him. If he did, the rock would roll right back down on the other side. The message of this story is that life is meaningless and absurd, but it should be taken as a challenge. 2.
