Holly Rothrock Mr. Hayden ELED 200 September 18, 2019 Philosophy Statement When a parent takes their child to school, they expect the child to in a successful learning place, but that all starts with the teacher. Brad Henry reflected on the understandings of the outstanding teaching abilities of Judy Whitesell, he responded with this quote, “A good teacher can inspire hope, ignite the imagination, and instill a love of learning.” Teachers show students the foundation of how a child may become in the near future. I believe a teacher is someone who connects with students in and outside of the classroom, builds students for success, and inspires students go to above and beyond. As a teacher, when they first meet their students for the school year, they want to know many things about the students, not just in the classroom but also the students home life. This helps the teacher connect with their students and a significant way, so they have background on what they like and their life at home. This also involves teacher-parent conferences as well. This tells the teacher what the student’s family is like and how well they interact with the child’s learning. These two interacts with students and parents helps teachers really get to know students and may help them in the school year. As a teacher, this shows that they care about getting to know their students and their families. Without getting to know the students, teacher could not set up a success classroom or connect with their students as well. With this being said, being a teacher that cares, makes a care filled classroom.

Another trait to have as a teacher is building students up for success. If the teacher has students engaged with class time throughout the year, that will help when the tests and regulations come later in the year, and when teachers have to reflect on how their students do in school. When teachers build this success, they are getting them involved with school, making a successful learning environment, and making the classroom knowledgeable. When teacher show their students that learning in important in all aspects, the student is more and likely to fully engage since they reflect on how the teacher acts. When students show they care about school the teacher can help do this in another way. This way is making the classroom fun, doing activities instead of lecturing all the time can really help a child get engaged in learning. Therefore, students seem to like school more. The last trait I believe a teacher consumes of is inspiring students to go above and beyond. What helps most as a teacher is when you get creative in the classroom. For example, when teachers asks their students what they want to be when they grow up, the teacher gets a variety of answers. In order to let them believe they could really become what they would like when they grow up, you start making Friday’s dedicated to these current topics. Plan the day learning about what the job does and watch video on them and such. Make the environment fun for the students. Getting creative can also help when you are actively learning a subject, when students do not seem engaged, plan where they are getting active but still engaging in learning at the same time. This shows the teacher want to actually have fun in their classroom. Getting creative and inspiring students to go above and beyond, connecting with students, and building students up for success are all get traits to what I believe a teacher is. Teacher have many responsibilities because they shape the future people. Have those three traits can really

make a difference on how students may reflect in school as they get older. As Karl Menninger said, “What a teacher is, is more important than what he teaches.”...
