REFLECTION IN: “ THE 19TH CENTURY PHILIPPINES ECONOMY SOCIETY AND CHINESE MESTIZOS”
During the 19th Century Philippine Economy Society and Chinese Mestizos, There are several changes that many scholars consider as an era of profound adjustment in the Philippines all along in this period, like the vast economic, political, social, and cultural currents changes were observed. The Chinese Mestizos took part as an element of the Philippine society in the 19th Century that greatly benefited from the changing economy since the pre-colonial times and influenced the economy by purchasing land, accumulating wealth, and influence. The global wave became the silver lining that many imperial powers in Europe and the west were undergoing industrialization. The price increase in raw materials presented an opportunity in the agricultural potential in the Philippines. In the late 1785 finance, agricultural projects manage the new trade established between the Philippines, Spain, and other Asian Markets. Global events continued to affect the Philippines at the beginning of the 19th Century, When the majority of export in the Philippines came from cash crops like tobacco, sugar, cotton, indigo, abaca, and coffee.
Regarding the Basco reforms, farmers and traders had finally experience prosperity when Governor-General Jose Basco y Vargas instituted reforms intended to free the economy from dependence on Chinese and Mexican trade. Economic development affects various aspects like social, political, cultural developments. Manila became a trading center where people seek for better opportunities to escape the worsening condition in the farmlands. During this pre-colonial era, different treatments are observed based on social status each socio-economic status is ranked and categorized as following: Peninsular, Insular, Mestizo ( it's either Chinese or Spanish), Principalia, Indio, lastly Chino Infiel. The least treated among these are the Indio's which is the native or pure Filipino....
