Power of words

This speech is delivered by Mohammed Al-qahtani the 2015 World Champion of Public Speaking. His speech was about how we can use words in a certain way to make the “world a beautiful place”. I have chosen this speech because I believe it perfectly fits this assignment, as we are studying the organization of a powerful and moving speech. Mohammed started his speech by a very smart move, pulling a cigarette, a weird move and highly unacceptable in such settings. It was a part of his speech all along, a shock to make the audience very engaged with the speaker, I personally heard a women saying “oh my god!” which made me realize that the audience is really interested now. After that he started to provide some “statistics” about smoking and other illnesses so he can prove that smoking is not that big of a deal. The real start of the speech was by a joke, making the audience laugh and interested, as he may tricked them to believe that smoking is one of our last concerns, which is not. After the shock and the laugh he started to talk seriously about the power of words, presenting some facts and strong arguments. One thing I found really interesting is making the speech a little personal, as he started to talk about his friend and his relation with his father, and then the speaker got emotional and his tone changed, I can only assume that the audience was really moved and touched by the story and death of his friend, because I was. It is worth mentioning that along his speech he kept his humor as threw a few jokes every once In a while. If I am to arrange this speech I would say that it went like this: 1. Shock 2. Humor 3. Arguments and facts 4. Emotional story 5. Solid ending(breaking the cigarette, and getting back to the first thing he mentioned)
