Description

PREPARATION FOR MOD C TASK ● Read over the three Mod C Texts you have studied ● Make a table that identifies specific features unique to that text such as authorial intrusion, extended metaphor sensory metaphors, motifs, symbolism, structural  nd the effect of these, relating to the purpose of the text. manipulation a ● Make a list of language features/ aspects of the author’s craft that you think you would feel comfortable utilising (note using a metaphor, using a particular narrative voice is NOT sophisticated enough - these texts have been chosen for specific crafting that gives them textual integrity - these features are what you should be utilising in your writing) ● Consider which writing form is easier for you - imaginative, discursive, persuasive and revise the unique features of ALL styles (see posts on Craft of Writing on your Classroom pages as well as the slideshow on the whole cohort page) remember that your considered use of these stylistic features will demonstrate your understanding of the craft.

PRACTICE TASKS: ● Try writing using at least three specific aspects of craft you have chosen from a Mod C text. You could try doing something like this: Choose a quote from this website,https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/tag/writing,link it to a Mod C text and try answering a generic question like: Use this quote as a stimulus to write a piece of imaginative, discursive or persuasive writing using at least two ways writing has been crafted from a Mod C text you have studied. You could do this several times using different quotes and texts. ● Find the opening of a story and continue writing it using different crafting elements from your mentor texts. ● Write a reflection: Compare how you have used language in part (a) to evoke emotion with the way writing has been crafted in at least ONE prescribed text from Module C. (10 marks)

These can be written as a 600 word pieces and 400 word reflections or 900 word ‘stand alone’ pieces ●

Read over your writing and think critically about: - Where did you begin your story - could this be more interesting? Maybe from a different point in your piece? - Are there unnecessary, poorly crafted sentences that could be cut out? - Have you chosen a persona or characters that will engage and interest the reader, that they will care about? - Is there cohesion in the piece or is it disjointed? - Are the elements of the mentor text clearly and originally utilised in your writing? NOTE - these are not elements that you will write about in your reflection but will be useful in polishing your writing. - Use the marking grid on the cohort page to critique your own work or ask someone else to look over it for you....
