1. Overview My first piece I had chosen was "Beethoven's fifth symphony" by Ludwig van Beethoven. The history behind is work is because he was hard of hearing. It was also implying a sign or meaning of fate. It was said to be "the sound of fate knocking on the door". The Second piece of art I chose was "Ride of the Valkyries" by Richard Wagner which was the popular term for the prelude to Act III of Die Walküre. Both pieces of art share a common theme and artifacts that deal with the domain of humanities. These pieces show the history behind music and music production and how it has developed over the years. It shows the emotion and feelings we get from hearing music which helps us create our emotions towards it. 2. Impact the Audience The common theme of what can be heard and what do they mean is expressed by how us as people interpret the pieces of art we see or hear. For example with the two pieces I had chose when people hear them they can develop certain emotions or feelings towards them. Certain instruments in those pieces can sway the listener to certain feelings in those pieces. 3. Evidence There has been much evidence that has been collected from each of the works of art to help explain and support the conclusions about the impact of the theme. In both pieces of art, there are different emotions that can be portrayed by the average listener and the intentions by the composer. When Beethoven made the fifth symphony it was supposed to be "the sound of fate knocking at the door" but he also made it because he was hard of hearing so the vibrations of the cords and the instruments helped him develop an ear for music. The "Ride of the Valkyries" by

2 Richard Wagner was made for a play. It was meant for prelude to Act III of Die Walküre, which was the second of the four operas by German composer Richard Wagner that comprise The Ring of the Nibelungs. Clearly these two pieces had a purpose for certain meanings but other listeners could portray the pieces to different personal life experiences. 4. Personally The theme that connects to these two pieces of art is what can be heard and what they mean. I believe that this is very important to me because it shows personal life experiences with each of them. Many people have heard these songs in movies, television shows, etc. I believe that the pieces also show a little bit of background history into the start of music production and composing of how it all started. These two pieces of music stood out the most to me considering they were the most common and popular I've heard of that century. 5. Studying the Humanities Having a better understanding or grasp of humanities can help develop a better outlook and attitude towards personal and professional life. Understanding humanities can help better families and work experiences. I believe that if the humanities are understood then the person can be more informed about the world and how things are ran. I think that learning about previous historical humanities can develop a structure or a base into learning new things about it. 6. Humanities Humanities are important to society because not having the proper communication skills towards people in our personal life or professional life can affect things in a negative way. For example, at my job if I don't keep it professional and I discuss things about my personal life that shouldn't be spoken about then that can run into a conflict at work to where the boss or more higher up

3 people at work would think that I let my personal life cross into my professional life too much. So there has to be certain boundaries between the two which is all part of learning humanities....
