GUIDELINES TO WRITE RESPONSE FOR PRL - Main idea (your point) o Supporting detail 1 ▪ Elaboration (evidence from the short story) o Supporting detail 2 ▪ Elaboration (evidence from the short story)
Sample Question (this is only an example and NOT the question for your PRL 1): Question: If you were Mama, would you talk to Yem to discuss the problem? Provide 2 reasons (2 paragraph) to support your answer.
Answer: If I were Mama, I would not discuss the problem with Yem because I think I should not intervene with their matter (main idea). This is because I might hurt Jah’s feelings if she found out that I knew about the matter but did not mention anything about it to her (supporting detail 1). In this story, Mama mentioned that Jah was her closest sister-in-law and thus Mama did not want to hurt her feelings (evidence from short story). Besides that, if I were Mama I must respect Yem as my husband’s older brother and just let my husband talk to him in the efforts of dealing with the situation (supporting detail 2). As we can see in this short story, Papa already mentioned that he wanted to help May and Kassim, and it is also shown that Papa was already working on something that he might have already planned (evidence from short story).
Secondly, (main idea – 2nd reason). + (supporting detail 1). + (evidence from short story). + (supporting detail 2). + (evidence from short story)....
