THEORY OF MIND/AUTISM (PART2) CONTENT. Autism spectrum disorders are a condition that impacts one's ways of interacting with others in either their homes, school or any other community environment. (Harrison speech pathology, 2018). Yes, Harrison suffers from autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Theory of mind is the ability to understand one’s self behavior as well as others. (Baron-Cohen et. Al., 2000). Harrison doesn’t mind or take into account the way he handles himself and behaves is affecting his fellow toddlers in the same class. He would cause conflicts just after arriving in school, thus this would make the others feel they have an unsafe environment. He would also yell the f-word around his fellow toddlers, which is inappropriate even if he has his pronunciation. This truly showed that the toddler had ASD because of his social communication behavior as he did not care about the other's view on him. Play tends to provide opportunities and engagement with peers during daily routines. (Holmes, Elizabeth & Willoughby, Teena, 2005). For a 27 month child that’s an approximately two-year kid, they are usually active and they engage themselves in lots of games and fun. Another reason why I saw that Harrison had ASD is that he did not like playing with the other kids, where he chose snuggling more thus falling asleep the whole day. With his chaotic and stubbornness, the teacher used to put him in a corner to hold him down. He tends to perceive the classroom as another chaotic situation. Harrison’s parents' separation affected him because one parent was given custody over the child, while the other one tends to visit him on specific days. Thus, moving from one home to the other. In an ASD kid, a transition is one major factor that is not ideal with such type of kid. Change of routine is one thing that an ASD kid will have trouble dealing with it. This may lead to chaotic behaviors that affect all of Harrison’s environment. Which is clearly shown in school as he brought high-stress levels to schools.
