Introduction and Literature Review Rubric PSY 301W Domain assessed Introductory paragraph - Start with an attention grabbing sentence or two that clearly state the topic of your paper - Inform the reader of the topic area early on o The reader should know exactly what you will be reviewing by the end of the first paragraph Literature review - Start broad and end narrow, with a description of your study (see next section, the present study) - Use must use 5-10 peer reviewed articles; at least 3 that were published within the past 10 years - Provide a background and context for your study - Convey in clear concise way why this study is needed o Does your study advance theory, hypotheses, or constructs to a broader range of domains of performance, samples, settings etc. - Identify limitations in the literature (poke holes in the exiting literature) o Discuss ways in which your study is different or special in terms of focus or design. Discuss why these differences are important limitations in the field The present study and hypotheses - End your literature review/introduction with a few sentences about your study and what your hypotheses are - Make it clear to the reader how hypotheses flow from the literature – nothing should come out of the blue o Explicitly say, “It was hypothesized that….” Technical features - Grammar, spelling, punctuation - Paper should be written in APA format o In text citations, quotes, etc. must be in APA format o Correct heading levels Total points
