Bergdorf Goodman is such an iconic department store because they have created multiple competitive advantages over other stores. Also, they pay very close attention to detail. Their Christmas windows are a great example. The window designers continue to come up with the most brilliant designs to make consumers stop and stare. Also, Bergdorf Goodman is very selective about the collections they allow into their store. Collections that make it into Bergdorf’s have to meet certain high standards, and this is not the case for many other department stores. They feature a woman named Betty who will pick out clothes for you even though it might be the most expensive coat in the store. Also, they have a shoe salon. These choices and techniques set Bergdorf’s apart from their competition. The consumers view the employees at Bergdorf’s as the experts. Bergdorf’s even will go to great lengths to get the story behind the consumer’s reason for searching for the outfit. What do you think is the role of Bergdorf Goodman in fashion industry (a) for fashion designers and (b) consumers? Bergdorf’s role in the fashion industry is to create a department store where fashion designers aspire to have their collections and where consumers desire to shop. They have created a department store that creates a sense of happiness and joy to fashion designers and consumers. When a designer gets their collection into Bergdorf’s, they know that they have arrived. The majority of fashion designers dream that their collections will be good enough to be sold at Bergdorf’s. The store’s high standards motivate designers to strive to be the best they can be,

because Bergdorf’s only accepts the best collections. Bergdorf’s has created a department store where consumers dream of shopping. They have done this by picking the top designers that millions of consumers want to wear. If possible, would you want to work at Bergdorf Goodman? What position and why? If your answer is “no”, explain why. I would love to work at Bergdorf’s just to get the experience of working in a department store of this caliber. The position I would want to obtain at Bergdorf’s is a buyer. I would that position so that I could see all of the marvelous collections that Bergdorf’s gets to see on a daily basis. I would love to even just see the collections they turn away. Bergdorf’s is a store known for their high caliber of products and to just be able to see all the products the choose from would be amazing. Overall, what did you learn from this film? I learned that designers strive to get their collections into Bergdorf’s. This department store is not just a place for wealthy consumers to shop. Their window designs are amazing. Designers pay attention to every little detail in creating a window. One of Bergdorf’s big events is the Christmas window reveal. It was crazy to learn that a woman said she wanted her ashes spread on the seventh floor of Bergdorf’s. Betty is the stylist at Bergdorf’s, and she will put you in the most expensive coat. I feel like I would need to be extremely careful if I went shopping at Bergdorf’s. Also, I had no clue that they had a shoe salon. Overall, I learned a great deal about high-level fashion merchandising from this video about Bergdorf Goodman’s iconic department store....
