I chose this picture because it strongly depicts the hardships of The Hacienda Luisita farmers. Their willingness and dedication to reclaim what is really theirs can be clearly seen. Even at the face of strong adversaries they persisted. But sadly, their voices felled on deaf ears. Their basic human rights are just ignored by those in power. This event became an eye opener to a lot of people. Witnesses and sympathizers are silenced without any warning. Extra judicial killings became common place without anyone batting an eyelash because of the mere fact that opposing may end someone’s life prematurely. Media outlets also made the Aquino’s look good on the outside but they’re wolves in sheep’s clothing. While in reality, the atrocities they made are just swept under the rag.

The Hacienda Luisita originally belong to Tabacalera, the name itself is from the wife of the top official on it. The sale of Hacienda was been vetoed to the Lopez family since President Ramon Magsaysay wanted to offered it to Cory’s father, Jose Cojuanco Sr. Cojuanco the owner of Tarlac Development Corporation (TADECO). He obtained the farm from the Spanish as long as they would do the distribution of land after 10years. However, they still not distributed the land to any farmer even 1988 when Cory Aquino became the president. The promise she stated to her campaign has been broken and instead signed into the law clause called Stock Distribution Option. According to SDO clause, there are no distributions of actual land to any farmers but only the stock shares. Apparently, the rate of farmers decreased because of this law. Thousands of farmers lost their jobs since 1898 and the corporation turn down their workdays and also the net salary. The stock share should benefit the farmers positively, particularly to have stable jobs, comfortable and regular income. But the opposite came and diminished the possible dreams of the farmers, the lands of the hacienda diverted from its real owners. The Hacienda Luisita Case History, tackles and shows information about the outset wealth of Cojuangco. The video indicates the frightful image of the Cojuangco wealth history, family become powerful and eager. They expanded the properties they had and made it more complicated for their competitors to hold on to something they’d like for themselves. The four sons of Cojuangco did some trickery for the huge land they dreamed off to hold and owning even more land to increase its assets. Up until one out of the four sons tried his luck being a congressman and the clan gains political power. The political tread and connection on most powerful people enhance their fortune. Two clans in Tarlac fused to become more influential, and the dissemination of the Hacienda Luisita to its real owners are yet delayed again. Farmers became anxious to retrieve what they deserve. The groups of tenants and farmers made a union to start a protest that even priests helped them to voice out. Yet, President Cory Aquino fights back and abuses the power she has, as opportunity to continuously have the land of Hacienda Luisita. Civilians mysteriously disappearing and farmers got massacred, even the priests are scared losing of losing their lives. Many lives were blown and lost. The Cojuangco’s, still owning the land of Hacienda Luisita, continuously seize lands from others. The case of Hacienda Luisita is one of the reality conflicts in life; a free man can’t be free when the privilege of mankind is not for anybody. Finally, after a long-fought battle, a portion of the hacienda now belongs to the

farmers, unfortunately they deserve more lands for stable life and income. Hacienda Luisita then became a symbol of government failure....
