Executive Summary

There is a steady demand for shoes in the present conditions. We have conducted a lot of research and came up with the conclusion that we can provide something distinctive and exclusive to the women population of our country, Bangladesh. We have decided after much consideration that we will be manufacturing and retailing such shoes that help with blood circulation and keeps the feet protected from blisters. Our main motive is to provide shoes that are both fashionable yet comfortable keeping in mind the health of our customers. Elysian is the name that we have chosen for our shoe company which means peaceful and perfect; divinely inspired. We have decided to provide 5 types of shoes to our customer base which are generally the ones that are in trend and preferred by the women currently. We are manufacturing these shoes that we would be selling to our customers directly. We are only providing business to customer activities. Since our product is a premium product, we are giving our product for a niche market only. We would keep our prices at the affordable range since we want to give quality products at a suitable price range and an overall experience that they wouldn’t forget and would come back again and again. In this report, we have provided detailed information about our business plans. We have included the business environment analysis to portray the information about the market conditions, the marketing plan, the production process and so on. However, the ultimate objective of the report was to establish a complete HR planning for our start-up. We have included the job analysis of ten positions as any HR planning starts with job analysis and it is a very crucial component. We have prepared the organogram, work process chart, the methods of recruiting and selecting and salary and compensation for the employees. We also included benefits that we would try to provide for our employees along with training and development programs and appraisal methods. We have also incorporated the code of conduct that we would abide by.

In Introd trod troduc uc uction tion Seven students of North South University have come together to initiate a start-up that will help provide for the female-centric population of our country with healthy yet stylish shoes that will not only aid in their comfort but also enable them to stand out in the crowd. After careful analysis, research and consideration, we have discovered that women in this country don’t usually only get to choose one, either comfort or style. They don’t get to choose both because of the gap in our market which we desire to fill, for example, if they choose the style, they often come face to face with discomfort. If they go for comfort, a lot of times they don’t get to satisfy their fashion sense and achieve the desired look they were opting for. Sometimes if not always the product is extremely expensive for everyone to afford and takes a toll on their monthly budget. In short, keeping all of these in mind, we have decided to give them everything in one package at an affordable price to ensure high customer satisfaction. That’s how we got the inspiration to launch this innovative line of shoes under the brand name of Elysian. This would be a partnership dedicated to providing fine shoes with a touch of style to make it accessible for all the women out there, for all age groups and all class. Running such a big startup would be anything but easy. However, proper planning and designing would definitely be of big help. A complete HR planning process is mandatory for any start-up and not only would help the company grow, but also drive it towards improvisation and high customer content and satisfaction.

All of us plan to be involved in the daily activities of the business and updated about everything so that we can be prepared for any sort of situation and deal with it accordingly. All of us will be in charge of different departments. The CEO will be elected after every 4 years by the voting of the 7 of us. The initial body would include: Chief Executive Officer: Zarin Tasmia Tasmi After completing my graduation from North South University and while studying in NSU I have worked in a few local manufacturing so I have already 2years work experience. After the graduation program back, I will gather a few of his friends who have been interested to work in this industry and is eager to bring a change in their own life. I will be the chief executive officer of our company, which I named ‘ELYSIAN’. Executive Officer: Bushra Ferdousi I am studying at North South University and doing a major in both Finance and Human Resource Management. I am going to take the responsibility as the Executive Director of our Company named Elysian. I believe our products can make a difference to all the women out there who are struggling to choose between comfort and style. I want to bring a change to this by bringing both comfort and style together, and want our company to reach the extreme heights within the next few years. Head of Human Resouces: Samia Tarin I am studying at South University and doing major in Human Resource Management. I am going to take the responsibility as the head of Human Resource Manager of our Company named ELYSIAN. I will oversee departmental functions & I will be managing all our employees who will work under me. I believe with my proper planning and organizing our products can make a good change to all the women who want both comfort and style. I also need to control all my works requirements like hiring employees, job analysis, performance appraisal, training & development, etc. At last, I want our company to be the best in the next 5 years.

Head of Operations: Md. Saiful Islam Imon I will be completing my BBA from North South University and my major is Human Resource Management and Finance. In our company, I am the head of the operations. So I am involved in production planning, organizing and supervising processes and make necessary improvements for higher profitability. My job is to manage the teams' attempt to balance cost with revenue to achieve a higher net operating profit possible. Head of Finance: Sadia Samad I am studying at North South University and doing major in both Marketing and Human Resource Management. I am going to take the responsibility as the Head of the finance department of our company named Elysian. Since I was engaged with various kinds of extra-curricular activities during my undergraduate study. So, I have experience in organizing and managing events. My job is to supervise all financial tasks of our company, create forecasting models, and ensure all accounting activities comply with regulations. I believe my previous experience and expertise in the business field will enhance the value of the venture. Head of Marketing: Abdulla Al Mamun I am studying at North South University and doing a major in Human Resource Management. I am going to take the responsibility as the head of Marketing of our company named Elysian. So, I am going to handle the marketing department. I have good communicating skills and able to deal with people. Customer satisfaction is an important factor for me. I am involved with the advertising, distribution and selling process. I will make sure the goods and services are distribution and selling at the right cost and with good quality. Head of Legal & External Affairs: Wahida Tasnim I am studying at North South University and doing major in both Human Resource Management and Marketing. I am doing to take responsibility as the legal and external of our Company named Elysian. I will make sure all the safety standard given by the government is maintained. In terms of any kind of accident, it should be solved by the legal and external. Environmental laws ensuring the organization is following. I will handle all of the company’s paper works. International compliance will look after by legal and external bodies.

After careful thought and consideration, we have decided to enter the shoe industry. The demand for the female shoe is somewhat constant with the rising demand to cope with the latest trend and fashion. We have researched and come to the conclusion that we would like to provide the female population with highly fashionable yet healthy and comfortable shoes that will allow blood circulation and avoid blister, a package which is not produced or that readily available in our country. We would be manufacturing such types of shoes, mostly for undergoing orthopedic consultation by surgeons of our country. Our company would operate in both the wholesale and retail areas. The shoe industry has a lot of competitors in terms of both large and small manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers. The show's manufacturing industry itself has many obstacles to entry. However, since the demand is based on fashion and trends, a unique company can easily create its place and replace the fading firms. There are scopes of high profitability, again depending on this product design. Their profitability depends on their ability to succeed in a unique product in the competitive arena. Product innovation is a very important factor in this sector; hence, product innovation can be brought upon in terms of attractiveness. Additional benefits like health or others, and/ or through technological advancements like new types of equipment and processes of making shoes that might result in reduced costs. Superior products can lead to greater prices, therefore, greater profitability. Also, innovation can lead to long term sustainability. So much so innovation is the key to success and one has to keep adapting to meet the changing demands of this industry to sustain in the long run. This is especially due to the fierce competition in this industr y which already has many established companies. Furthermore, the footwear industry has been expanding at a stable rate over the last few years. The different companies are using various channels to reach to their customers including portals and other web-based technology. According to Malani, in 2014, Asia Pacific generated the highest revenue in the global footwear industry (Malani, 2015) He also stated in his article that China is one of the major market players along with India in the Asian Pacific market scenario. Bangladesh is also emerging as one of the biggest hubs for the shoe

industry due to the cheaper labor availability and rising population leading to increasing demand. The magnitude of the footwear industry is growing largely in which our company will be operating. We would initially be targeting the female portion of the population, from whom the greatest demand comes. Due to the increase in their earnings and preferences, we have seen that this demographic spends a lot of money on shoes and accessories. We can predict that there wouldn’t be a fall in consumer demand if we can market the products properly and effectively into the Bangladeshi Footwear Industry but we have to be aware of the presence of some established companies here like Bata and Apex and other numerous small companies. We have selected the name Elysian because it is a very unique name that will make us distinct from our rivals. Our goal is to provide our society with the opportunity to wear something stylish which is also comfortable at the same time. We aim to be eco-friendly at an affordable rate. We plan to recycle the leftover fabrics and materials and use them again and also make eco-friendly packaging. We plan on consulting the best orthopedics in the country and providing shoes keeping in mind the health of the people, especially those who suffer from leg related problems such as blisters, poor blood circulation, etc. The mission statement of our company is to provide “Health with the trend” so no one has to choose between the two. Our vision is to be “the ultimate solution to the health and safety issue in the footwear industry with only the best quality”. We want to be recognized as the company that cares both for comfort and health and style. The advantage that we have is that we will be bringing a new kind of product to the market that the other competitors don’t manufacture which will give us the upper hand in the market and added advantage. We plan on setting our factory in Savar as it will bring us the advantage of lower traveling and distribution costs along with cheap labor availability. The close distance to Hazirabagh which would be an important source of raw materials for Elysian would benefit us a lot . We will start with our first store in Elephant Road then expand to various locations in Dhaka and eventually the whole of Bangladesh. We will take time to do so because Elysian needs to be recognized as a brand before we go further with the plans for expansion.

However, Government strategies are extremely preferable to the industry. It enjoys a 7% interest rate on loans and 15% cash incentives.
