_________________________________________________________________________ Research Assignment #2 - 2.5 points or 2.5% of students’ grade – - to be graded individually (not in connection with students’ team) _________________________________________________________________________ Today’s assignment has to do with understanding how our behavior and belongings shape others’ impressions of who we are and how we may “manipulate” those impressions based on what aspects of our physical world we share with others. Step 1: Pretend that you are a detective or forensic psychologist who does not know you and visits your bedroom/apt. Try to ignore all knowledge of yourself and approach your bedroom/apt as though it were the bedroom of a stranger. ALTERNATIVELY, you may evaluate someone else such as a friend or family member who allows you to observe his/her room. As noted on the powerpoint slides that accompany this assignment (see Blackboard), begin by (1) making a list that includes both observations about the room (its contents and arrangement) and conclusions about the person who lives in the room, and then (2) jot down some notes with the following questions in mind: 1. What is your first impression of this person as you look around? The person seems to be a messy and busy person. This person cares about functionality more than looks. It appears to me that this person spends most of his/her days in the bedroom working long periods of time since there is a desk, a printer and some dishes laying around. This person might be spending his/her spare time binge watching tv shows on a tv that is mounted on the wall with a rack full of series of various show dvds. There can be found unfinished paintings on the walls, this person is interested in visual arts. There are blue prints of residential houses that are also incomplete, this person might be an architect. The person who lives in this bedroom appears to be a male because there are big dirty socks on the floor. 2. What seems to be important to this person? 3. What does this person appear to do in this room? 4. How does this person appear to spend his/her spare time? 5. Does this person appear to have any specific hobbies/interests? 6. Does this person appear to work? If so where, what does s/he do? 8. Does this person appear to be a male or a female? Step 2: The type-written assignment is due at the beginning of the main lecture at the next meeting of the class. The assignment should be uploaded to Blackboard. The assignment must be type-written in 12 point Times New Roman font, double-spaced with 1 inch margins. Write in complete sentences. The assignment should be no longer than 1 page; 7-10 sentences is fine. Grading is noted in parentheses. 1. Write a profile of the individual living in the room you observed. Consider the above 9 questions as you prepare the profile. **Do not reveal whose room it is** (2 points) 2. Readability, clarity, grammar, and spelling (0.5 point)...
