Introduction

Many benefits come to eating particular foods that pertains to one diet that promotes good healthy eating. Now more than ever, because of the access of quality organic food at a relatively low price, it makes it easier for someone to start a diet. This can also have a negative connotation to it because that also means the people are more likely to eat food that is not good for them. However, there is nothing bad with having a cheat day every once in a while. While exploring possible topics to do my research paper on, one topic kept crossing my mind. Which is the pescatarian diet. I am a huge fan of fish ever since my dad cooked it for me as kid because fish is a very important component in Haitian culinary dishes. Ever since I stopped playing sports, I have been trying to keep my body up to par in term of the physical aspect, and because I am not burning as much calories as I did when I played sport, I decided to change my diet. The pescatarian diet was the most practical diet for me because I still get to eat meat, unlike the vegan diet, but I still cut out the red met in my regular diet. I work out 3 times a week, so maintaining my strength is very important to me and on average fish contains 16 to 26 grams of protein. This is a major con that I had when considering becoming vegan, but the pescatarian diet allows me to work out at a high intensity without having to eat a lot of food to maintain my diet. Even some athletes follow this diet because of the same benefit that intrigued me. Some notable athletes are Alvin Kamara and Cam Newton. Alvin Kamara stated in a podcast that he follows a pescatarian diet, but occasionally has a cheat day. As for Cam Newton, he currently is vegan, but once stated that he was pescatarian early in his NFL career and really enjoyed it. He said the reason he sopped was because he started to gain too much weight, which can be a con of the pescatarian diet if someone overeats.

What A Pescatarian Diet Entails The pescatarian diet is a diet that can be mostly referred to as vegetarian diet with fish. Pescatarians eat fish and also the grains and nuts that your typical vegetarian eats. Also, most pescatarians include dairy and eggs into there diet, but for the most part their daily diet consist of grains, legumes, nuts, seeds, fruits, vegetables, and fish. On the other side, the foods that are not allowed in this diet is beef, chicken, pork, lamb, turkey. This was easy to cut out most of the food because I only eat chicken and turkey and the rest I took out my diet. There are many reasons why someone would become pescatarian, for me it was to maintain weight and strength, but there are some people who don’t support the inhumane conditions and poor labor of factory farms the produce meat. The elimination of land animals is a big reason why some people become vegetarian or pescatarian. A lot of people nowadays are starting to realizing the connotations that red meat has and are starting to resort to other heathier methods of eating. Even though I have used many athletes as an example of pescatarian diet users, this type of diet doesn’t just pertain to them. Some notable celebrities that are or we pescatarian at one point are Ariana Grande, Ben stiller, Asap Rocky, and Steve jobs. A lot of former vegetarians have complained that the veggie diet does not give them enough energy to get through their day and that’s where fish can serve as the main source of energy and nutrients. This is also why pescatarians tend to add eggs and dairy into their diet because it is another source of protein and energy that is not provided within vegetarians. In my opinion, becoming pescatarian is the only real diet for someone trying to maintain their weight and strength. All in all, I think that the pescatarian diet allows someone to still eat the food they like while also doing it in a healthy manner. Even if someone were to want to become vegetarian, a lot of experts would advise them to become pescatarian first, then easy into that diet because it can be energy taxing to their body.

Results from a Pescatarian diet There are many beneficial results that can come from a pescatarian diet. Like I said earlier, a plain vegetarian diet can be very energy taxing. As stated in the Healthline article, a vegetarian diet can lead to a low intake of key nutrients because there is no meat involved. Calcium and protein can be very hard to get in a vegetarian diet. Fish is also a really good source of omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids are essential for daily life and provide good eye health, brain health, fights anxiety and depression and reduces the chances of heart disease. Like every good thing in life, comes a some bad as well and some cons to a pescatarian diet are that some fish are high in mercury like shrimp and salmon. Also, some fish such as shellfish can be high in cholesterol. Overall, just like any diet you still have to be mindful of what you put in your body and how much you put in you body as well. Conclusion In conclusion, the pescatarian diet can be extremely beneficial to someone who is able to utilize it right. While doing research on this topic, I learned some new ideas about the type of foods that I want to eat within this diet. I think long term people should take the health of their body seriously because your body truly is a temple and should be the most high maintenance thing in your life. The goal is to promote good health and longevity, so investing hundreds of dollars in you body to make sure that you get the right nutrients is important.
