Use study guide/objectives/specific class guidelines to identify important content while reading textbook and/or resources. Write out key points and take careful notes before and during class. Use available resources to review important content and to practice application. Prioritize individual study time to review each content carefully before each test. Note weak areas such as pathophysiology, pharmacology, lab values, nursing processes, etc. Practice Drug Dosage Calculations weekly. Read each question carefully and identify and recognize key words. Identify your own answer BEFORE looking at choices given. Don’t change an answer unless you know why the first answer is wrong. (Never change an answer just because you feel uncertain). Practice application of knowledge using available resources. Look up vocabulary terms/new words identified & write out the meanings of these words. Use positive self-talk- i.e. “I know these concepts”, “I am going to do well on this exam”. Don’t spend too long on a difficult question. This lowers your confidence and increases anxiety. Read it carefully, use test taking strategies to select correct answer. Practice relaxation techniques (deep breathing, etc.) so you can use them p.r.n.
