Sainsbury’s is a public limited company. This means their ownership is dispersed between the general public. This means shares of stock will be freely traded through stock exchange. Public Companies over certain must be listed on an exchange. Sainsbury’s is the second biggest supermarket in UK. They have roughly 16% share of the Supermarket share in the United Kingdom. Sainsbury’s was founded in 1869, by John James Sainsbury’s with a shop in Jury lane London. By 1922 Sainsbury’s was the biggest Grocery Retailer. In 1995, Tesco overtook Sainsbury's to become the market leader, and Asda became the second largest in 2003, demoting Sainsbury's to third place for most of the subsequent period until January 2014, when Sainsbury's regained second place. Sainsbury’s Methods of recruitment

Agency staf Agencies are what company’s use to recruit employees. This good as the company will not go through the stress of going through hundreds of CV’s being submitted to them different applicants. What the recruitment agencies do is, match applicants with the various vacancies that are currently available at different companies. The advantages of this is that the companies is the company will get applicants with a wider range of skills and experience is which will give the business new ideas. A disadvantage is that using recruitment agencies is a more expensive of recruitment through advertising, arranging interviews and paying the agency itself.

Job centres Job centres are a good to way businesses like Sainsbury’s to advertise their business. Job centres allow people that are struggling to find a job to have a greater opportunity to find one. This is good, as Sainsbury’s will find staff with a wider range of skills and experiences as the job centres will provide Sainsbury’s with many different applicants. A disadvantage of this is that it’s is a more expensive process just like using agencies are. In addition, Sainsbury’s will get applicants that may be less effective or skilled than it will say on the candidates resume.

Internal advertisement Internal advertisement is when a couple needs to fill up a vacancy recruiting some to a new role that is already in the business. This means that people that are already working in the company get an opportunity for promotion or to work in a different department that they might prefer. Internal advertisements are used so that the recruitment can be faster, this is because recruit from inside the business will be quicker than recruiting somebody from outside the business. Sainsbury’s will send the advertisement on their intranet, which is a private communication network where only people that work at Sainsbury’s will be able to see. Then the members that want to apply for the position will just have to contact human resources and apply for the role. This is process is much faster as the company will not have to go through several applications from the public. Also it will save time as their may no need for an interview as the company will already know how skilled the candidate is. The employees from out the business take longer to find, longer to train, and in general more money is spent on them to prepare them for the job and they might not fully integrate into the culture of the business.

External advertisement External advertisement is all about looking for people outside the business. The are many ways of external advertisement. These are Job centres, recruitment agencies, job search websites, job fairs and different visual outside advertisements where details of vacancies will be displayed on billboards, posters and newspapers. The people that are interested in the job will take details and contact the company themselves. This method of recruitment is good as it allows a wider range of skilled and experienced people to be a part of the business. This that the company will receive more ideas on how they can move forward. This increase Sainsbury’s with a competitive advantage against their rivals in the market as they will be getting new ideas on how to get better. One disadvantage of this is that the process will be much longer compared to doing internal advertisement. This is because in external advertisement they will require a CV, Cover Letter and will have to go through phone and face-to-face interviews....
