WAY 1 – WISH ME LUCK !

I wish you love and happiness I guess I wish you all the best

WAY 2 – REGRET

I wish I didn’t miss you anymore. Wish we could turn back time, to the good old days.

WAY 3 – COMPLAIN ABOUT A SITUATION

If wish it would stop. I wish someone would answer.

1. MAY 1 : Wish me luck !

 You wish someone something. But we don’t say: “I wish something happens”

He wished me luck. I wish you all the best in the future.

I wish you enjoy your stay

 I hope you enjoy your stay > activity, action  I wish you a pleasant stay

WAY 4 – DESIRE FOR SOMETHING TO HAPPEN

I wish Sarah would come. VS. I wish Sarah were here.

2. MAY 2 : Regret

 We use “wish” when we regret something or something is not as we like it to be (now or before).

I wish I had more time to study. She wishes she knew what to do about the situation. I heard the party was great. I wish I had known about it. It was a stupid thing to say. I wish I hadn’t said it.

When the meaning is present : wish + past simple = same build as conditional 2 after the if-clause: If I had more time to study… When the meaning is past : wish + past perfect = same build as conditional 3 after the if-clause: If I’d had more time to study…

3. MAY 3 : Complain about a situation

 We use wish + would when we’re complaining about a situation.

The phone has been ringing for 5 minutes. I wish someone would answer. It’s been raining all day. I wish it would stop. I wish you wouldn’t keep interrupting me.
