Use this form to apply for a Compliance Certificate if you have never been admitted as a lawyer in Australia. If you have been admitted as a lawyer in New Zealand you must apply under the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Act (Commonweath) 1997. Contact the Victorian Legal Admissions Board on 03 9604 2451 or refer to the website www.lawadmissions.vic.gov.au. PLEASE READ THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THIS FORM CAREFUL LY Ensure you complete every question where applicable Your application cannot be accepted if you have not followed the instructions. All applications must be typed. You can save the document electronically, type it out, print and sign under declaration. Attach all the required documentation The form will indicate which documents you are required to attach to your application, according to your own particular circumstances. Part C: Practical Legal Training There are two options for completing Practical Legal Training: 1. Practical Legal Training Course (a)

Completion of a PLT course at an approved PTL provider in Australia. In Victoria two providers have been approved, Leo Cussen Centre for Law and The College of Law.

Completion of a PLT course at an approved PTL provider whilst working as a graduate at a Law Firm.

2. Supervised Legal Training (a)

Completion of a full time 12-month period of supervised training.

Part D: Student Conduct Report All applicants for admission must arrange for an original conduct report from each educational institution where they have undertaken: (i) an academic qualification required under Rule 5 Legal Profession Uniform Admission Rules 2015 (ii) practical legal training required under Rule 6 Legal Profession Uniform Admission Rules 2015 The report should disclose any incident of misconduct in respect of which the educational institution holds a record. The report must disclose academic and general misconduct and should not be limited to misconduct, which has been found proven as a result of formal proceedings. General misconduct includes but is not limited to offensive behaviour, property damage, sexual harassment, racial vilification or other breach of the rules of conduct of the educational institution. Matters which a report should disclose include circumstances where a student has received a warning, marks have been deducted, an allegation was made, or an investigation took place, even if the student was subsequently exonerated. Applicants should note that their individual duty of disclosure to the Victorian Legal Admissions Board is not limited to matters which appear on the Report. Q.15

Part E: Police Report Every applicant for admission must attach an original National Police Certificate from Victoria Police to this application which shows whether or not you have any criminal history in Australia. Part F: English Language Proficiency Each Admitting Authority requires any applicant for admission to the legal profession to demonstrate a high level of English proficiency in writing, speaking, reading and listening. Those applicants who have been prescribed the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) must meet minimum scores in each field of the academic module of IELTS two years immediately proceeding an applicant’s application for admission.

Rule 10 (1) of the Legal Profession Uniform Admission Rules 2015 under the Legal Profession Uniform Law requires the Victorian Legal Admissions Board to have regard, when deciding whether to grant a Compliance Certificate, to whether the person is currently unable satisfactorily to carry out the inherent requirements of practice as an Australian legal practitioner. A mental health condition may be relevant to consideration of this question and hence may need to be disclosed to the Victorian Legal Admissions Board.
