1. Love and hate among neighborhood individuals. The Whites, African Americans, Asians, and Hispanics in Brooklyn, New York harbor stereotypes, criticism, and violent confrontation amongst themselves. With every ethnic group loving their members and hating their counterpart ethnic groups, the theme of love and hate comes out. Moreover, love and hate spiraled tension. 2. Racial tension. There is tension in Brooklyn, New York, emanating from racism amongst its neighborhoods. The fear of ethnic clashes, fights, and constant confrontations amongst races prompted for heated tension. 3. Police violence. Police officers killed Radio Raheem. Unfortunately, the police who are supposed to protect people and maintain law and order are at the forefront of violence in the film. Characters also shouted the names of other victims of police violence when Police officers killed Radio Raheem.

In the first scene where a record is playing with conga drums, the camera fades away to focus on the second scene where Puerto Rican men who fall under the Puerto Rican ethnic group.
