Sample Reflective Essay for the Seminar Held...

Description

John Rush Set S. Digma BSE – 4 Mathematics REFLECTION If I have a word to describe my experience as one of the organizers of the seminars held, it would be “great”. Our section had conducted already various seminars but these last two, I could say the most challenging yet, somehow the greatest ones. So much wonderful experiences and beautiful memories to look back and moments full-filled with lesson to remember. I learned so many things from the seminars; from the time of preparation up to the time the seminars were held. I was tasked, together with sister Rezel to think of the titles and to set the objectives of the seminars; and it was a great privilege for me to be one of the creative minds behind that. It was such an accomplished feeling that speakers could able to give fruitful and relevant talks from the titles we made, seeing that students were learning and knowing that our objectives were met. What I learned from this task is that when it comes to conducting a seminar it’s indeed important to put in mind what the seminar aims for, how it will affect and how relevant it will be to the listener. I could say that I am lucky enough to be given that task because now I’ve become more knowledgeable and aware on setting up and planning of a seminar. Learning which I can bring into the actual field outside. During the process of the preparation of the seminars, I realized that organizing and putting a seminar is not that easy, it actually requires resources, planning, time, effort, and unity. So if I have one to conduct soon, I think it’s not really that hard for me now because I am so much familiar with the things I shall do. Such as setting objectives, planning, preparing for stuffs needed, looking for a credible speakers, and the like which I all experienced. The seminars held were the most challenging in my part because I was one of those who led the program. Actually it was my first time to be the master of the ceremony which was so nerve cracking and challenging because doing that is not my forte, but still was a great experience

since I did and learned something new. Which after, I told myself “kaya ko pala.” All in all, the seminars were not that perfect; inevitable problems had occurred during, like the late participants and some technicalities but still we all feel great and awesome since we learned something from those, and there are lessons that we can bring outside. I’m so grateful that learning is so abundant in these seminars. I learned from the experiences as an organizer and also from the talks of the awesome speakers. One important lesson I learned from the talk of Mr. Carpio is that problem arises not only inside the classroom but also in our day to day life experiences. Reflecting with that, I learned that as a future math teacher, in order for my students to become good problem solver not only in math but also in real life setting, it is necessary that I equip them with learning and skills not limited on mathematics but also how these skills be translated into action and apply those in unravelling real-life problem. On the other side, the talking points of Mr. Crispe was about technology on mathematics. The most important lesson I learned from his talks is the question, “How can I utilize technology in teaching mathematics where students are learning?” I learned various strategies from him such as creating effective presentation like the powerpoint, and taking advantage on the values of technology in teaching and learning mathematics. From him, I realized that if technology is used strategically, surely it can provide greater access to learning mathematics for all students. It is indeed a great experience listening to them knowing that those learning are helpful for me when I am already in the field of teaching. Lastly, to you Ma’am, we learned so much from you. Your pieces of advice at the beginning had been a great help for us to successfully conduct the seminars. Your comments at last have made us aware of what aspect we were lacking and made us realize what to do next time for the betterment. We can assure you ma’am that each and every learning we have from the seminars are put into our minds and hearts. Thank you for being our adviser and May God bless you more! ...
