Online course with Professor Betty Lin-Fisher...
This weeks topic is a very controversial subject. I have done previous research concerning the #MeToo Twitter hashtag movement and, personally I feel it has been on the brink of bringing attention to this very serious matter for a long time now. With women all over the globe coming together in support of one another and standing up for what is right and what needs to be done gives me, and the girls of my generation, hope for a major change in society. The members of this movement are brave enough to come forward with their allegations, not only on the Twitter platform but sometimes in legal cases, and with that comes media coverage especially when the accused are big time celebrities and/or politicians. The importance of taking these accusations and investigating them is serious. As is how the media presents them to the public. Thorough investigation and reliable resources should be used in their publication to help share nothing but the facts. Interviews can be used for the story, but I do not think they should be what the entire story is about. I also think follow up stories help support the initial publication.
