DBQ+A

Look at one of the links to a website posted on Moodle under Notes and Resources on SGGK. Did the information there help you to understand the poem? Be specific in evaluating the site's usefulness. I first visited the Luminarium site on SGGK. The information was extremely helpful. I generally use online resources to help understand reading assignments, however, I always question its reliability and creditability. Therefore, being provided by the Luminarium link was comforting, knowing I could trust the information given. The introduction was most beneficial as it gave context information, which is useful when the author made geographical, political, and/or mythical references. I skimmed over few of the listed essays. It would have been more useful if the list of essay wasn’t so long, as I felt overwhelmed to visit many, instead of focusing on a couple. Overall, it had an easy to use navigation, and did in fact help me understand the poem in the area of context. Explain your opinion of the lord and lady of the castle, and of the test they set for Sir Gawain My opinion of the lord and lady of the castle is one of slight confusion. Sir Gawain, being a guest in the castle, should have been cautious about the terms of his stay in the castle. The lord of the castle is described as a much wiser and fiercer looking authority compared to Author. Sir Gawain should have used these first impressions as tools to determine his fate. The lord introduces Sir Gawain to his beautiful, young wife, and with this, the lord is instilling trust in Sir Gawain in regards with romantic advance towards his wife. Sir Gawain should have also taken caution when the lord speaks of playing a game. Sir Gawain needed to follow the rules exactly as he promised, and should have known that his fate would ultimately fall on this game the lord presented him with. I am confused as to why Sir Gawain, a highly noble knight, did not take warning when entering the game the lord presented him with. I am also confused why he would be deceitful towards the lord and keep the girdle from him when it is the lord’s lady who gave it to him. The lord and the lady are a team, in a traditional sense, and Sir Gawain should have known his fate would

be altered because of his affairs within the castle before going to find the Green Knight....
