Why are there so many African American males and females are adapting to hair locking styles and how are the hairstylists merchandising from it? I decided to write about Sisterlocks since there are many misconceptions about the hairstyle. Many African American people are adapting to hair locking, both males and females due to numerous reason such : its uniqueness, hair loss, hair thinning, hairstyles that agitates the scalp, getting away from traditional hair perms and hairstyles that includes hair extensions. Hair locking styles have different names, depending on the size of the hair locked. There are dreadlocks (huge locks), micro locks (small size but bigger than the brother locks), brother locks which are worn by male gender (larger than sister locks) and sister locks, which are the smallest forms of locks. Hair locks have raised much public attention towards those wearing the style and those who are trying to figure out the concept of the hairstyle. The name “Sisterlocks” was originated from a trademark company that was found in 1993 by Dr. JoAnne Cornwell in San Diego California. The company was based on training and certify practitioners Associates in over thirty countries and forty states on innovative an approach to market natural hair care structure to African American women. The Motto of the company was “Sisterlocks is not about a hairstyle, it’s about lifestyle” (Cornwell J., 2015). Dr. Cornwell desire that women acknowledge the Sisterlocks as self-empowerment, cultural self-expression, an embracement of self-affirming and the beauty of it. attempted to install the hair locks without possessing certified training from the Sisterlock company, they were brought to California court by Dr. Cornwell on August 18, 1999, for violating the 14th amendment (equal protection qualifications). Annotation 2: Scholarly Article: https://mysisterlocks.weebly.com/advantages-and-disadvantages.html (Advantage, n.d.) This article describes the pros and cons for wearing the Sisterlock hairstyle. The advantage of wearing this hairstyle is that you are able to part the lines, and run your fingers through the hair due to the tiny size of the locks. The author describes that the style cannot be manipulated by the wind and rain. The author makes a description of someone like myself, who chose the hairstyle due to thinning and breakage of fine hair, the author states that it will give my hair a fuller appearance that enables to show scalp due to the shedding hair that is trapped in the locks. I agree with the author because my hair has gotten thicker and grew rapidly since the Sisterlock installation and no products requirement after shampoo. The author describes the advantages of Sisterlock such as the cost of installing and maintenance of the locks. My installation cost me seven hundred and fifty dollars. The sister locks must be maintained by having the roots retightened every four to six weeks, which is costly and time

consuming. If you are unlucky, you can have a consultant who doesn’t take pride in doing a required job for installing Sisterlocks. Another issue that the author describes was people make fun of people who are wearing locks. I have also watched the news, where people were discriminated against and instructed to cut their locks off because they did not represent professionalism. People shouldn’t be judged by how they are wearing their hair because there is a reason why people wear their hair in a certain way. I suffered from hair thinning, loss, wore wigs, braids, perms to help the comb through tangled, hair weaves (sometimes glued) to cover the hair thinning and baldness. Sisterlocks have provided hair thickness and freedom of wearing own hair comfortably. It is time-consuming and costly but I have learned to maintain my own hair to save money....
