Description

Social Action Project Proposal Form Fall 2017 (1) Title of Proposed Social Action Project: The College Diet: The Freshman Fifteen isn’t the only cause of the College Diet.

(2) Detailed Description (100-250 words): College Students are constantly making extremely unhealthy decision when it come to their diet. They’re eating fast food, drinking, or aren’t eating. This is an issue throughout the USA, and our colleges and universities. It’s an issue that affect anyone attending a college, whether you are the typical 18-year-old, or you are not the typical college student. College students suffer from so many different types of mental and physical issues, if we being to take care of what we are putting into our bodies, it’ll begin to positively affect our physical and mental state. It will inspire students to start taking better care of themselves, and eventually other and those around them. We will start an activist group, which will be established on college campuses throughout the nation. They will provide students the information student need to make healthy choices, they will also protest universities and making sure that they are doing the best to supply their students with healthy choices, as well as the surrounding areas in make sure heathy options are available. These groups will also team up with the recreational centers on campus’s in providing information on how to stay active and healthy! This group will be sure not to come off over barring, it will be a safe place for students to come and learn. They will provide the best information they can! (3) Target Audience: The targeted audience will be ANY individual on college campuses. (4) Purpose and Rationale (400-600 words): Right now, as finals are approaching, I have been making TERRIBLE choices when it comes to food. I have noticed myself feeling terrible, and not having much energy. It has been affecting my mental health, I have noticed a higher number of panic attack associated with my eating choices. This has also been affecting my grades, and many other aspects of my life. So, that why I have made this proposal. This is a serious issue that needs to be address, and even though our textbook doesn’t really cover it, it need to be addressed. Health issues such as, Cardiovascular disease, Osteoporosis, and Cancer, the first issues begin in the early twenties. As college student’s we are also broke, and short on time, therefore our eating habits are affected. Negatively. According to, Kendall Anderson Nutrition Center, “arteries could begin to harden in college-age individuals who lack proper nutrition and that the typical college diet includes a lot of snacks and not very many planned meals” (Anderson, Collegian.com). Tori Manovich, senior health and exercise major states, “many students just opt for what is cheap and convenient…. Most student know how to eat healthy, but aren’t motivated to or don’t want to spend money on healthy food” (Manovich, collegian.com). All these statements are true, and we need to figure this out. In another article, a survey found, “that most [college student] weren’t even eating one serving of fruits or vegetables a day.” (Fontenot, thealantic.com). Throughout our Textbook, there is information about any and everything. There information about so much, and I believe before we can help other, we need to make sure our mental and physical selves are ready to help others. This proposal is intersectional in many ways, it can been beneficial for ethnicity, class, gender, sexuality, and age. Once we take care of ourselves we can then focus on the other issues at hand. Such as, Gender inequality, racism, and reproductive

issues. You cannot help other without helping yourself first. That the reason I am pitching this idea. College students are making a terrible choice when it comes to our eating habits, which then carries over into so many other aspects of life. I do see that there are so many issues in today’s world, and there are thing that should be done about it. I am not denying that. However, let’s work on ourselves, and then tackle all the issues there are.

(5) Three Steps to Initiate your Plan: Plan of Action 1: Being the process of starting the group. This step is necessary because we got to have a group before we can start anything. We will take the steps needed for to get these groups approved by the university.

Plan of Action 2: Begin advertising the group! This step is necessary because it’ll give the information one needs to know whether they want to join the group. This is help the group grow, and that’s the way to start this entire thing. Plan of Action 3: Start Protesting the Universities and Surrounding Communities. This step is necessary because it will be the beginning of the change. It’ll make sure healthier options are available to and for students.
