Mehak Mehta PHY-102 04/01/2021 Benjamin Tayo Task1: Softball Pitching

This paper talks about the outline of the application to bring an understanding of physic of sports as it relates to the game of softball. Like most sports softball involves different motions technique for throwing the ball, fielding, hitting with a bat. The softball pitching contains three concepts that involve speed, the direction of the spin and spin rotation, Newton’s laws of motion helps to describe all motion in the world. When you play softball, several forces influence the balls velocity including the force exerted by the bat, gravity, air resistance and friction. Just before the pitch, the softball is at rest in your hand. When you throw the ball, you exert a forward force on the ball towards the batter. Therefore, two primary forces act on the ball: the forward force exerted by your arm and the backward force exerted by air resistance. As a fly ball falls from the sky towards a catcher, two major forces act on it. The force of gravity causes the ball to accelerate downward. The upward force of air

resistance eventually becomes equal to the downward force of gravity and the net force of the failing ball is zero. The softball pitcher is the key player on all softball teams and the strength of the team is directly related to the skill of the pitcher....
