Description

Rock and roll is described as a very popular music genre that originated in the United States in the late 1940s and soon developed into Rock music in the 1950s. Often the name Creedence Clearwater Revival is related to American rock with a very well-known song “Fortunate son” featured in the film Forrest Gump. The Band Member includes lead vocal/guitar John Fogerty, rhythm guitar/vocal Tommy Fogerty brother of John, Bass Stu Cook, Cosmo Doug and Drums Clifford. The Band was called The Blue Velvets Started in 1959 in California. In 1964 they signed with Fantasy Records and rename as The Golliwogs by the co-owner Max Weiss. The new owner of Fantasy Records Saul Zaentz offered the band a chance to change the name as no one liked “the Golliwogs” in 1967, so they rename themselves Creedence Clearwater Revival. Creedence Clearwater Revival soon became most popular band in America after the release of their album, Bayou Country. “Fortunate son” was released in the Fourth album “Willy and the Poor Boys” along with “Down on the Conner”. A total of 6 albums were released between 1968 and 1969, and Creedence Clearwater Revival was disbanded 6 month after their U.S tour in 1972.

John Fogerty wrote the song against the Vietnam War and president of the United States Richard Nixon. Although the song was wrote against the Vietnam War, it was also speak for the soldiers that was forced to fight the war because they weren’t “senator’s son”. The rich who started the Vietnam War cannot afford to lose their children so their children were protected under the wealth and privilege. In the song there is a strong feeling of anger and helplessness of the working-class family had to send their children to fight the war which they were intended. As the rich and poor started fighting, the American society started to rip apart. Fortunate son has a very clear and strong musical characteristics, it had a homophonic texture, which were form by verse/chorus. The song structure is introverse-chorus-verse-chorus-verse-chorus-chorus-chorus-fade. Intro started with very funky drum highlighting the rhythm and bass guitar is used as one of the main instrument to play the exact right note of the chords significant increase the attention of the listener. Take the emotion straight into an intensive point where John started to tell his story, which I recognize the lyrics is the most important aspect of this song. ‘Some folks are born made to wave the flag Ooh, they're red, white and blue’ Expressing the hopelessness the young American generation had to face with his own characteristic country man vocal. And theme has repeated throughout the song, the basic chords and melodies has repeated multiple time.

Love the way you lie had a theme of abusive relationship and domestic violence. Even the young couple had a lot of problems but they still choose to be together. I chose this song because it very obvious that Rihanna sang the chorus is an example of refrain and Eminem rapped the verse part. Eminem has used a simple and basic 2 section structure in this song made the listener feel that this

he can keep singing nonstop. Chorus part acting as a bridge between verses (rap), draws listener back from Eminem’s vocal spitting words of violence and abuse, as reaches climax house was burning down. Although Eminem still expressing the desire of getting back to the relationship. Rhianna’s vocal repeated 3 times in the song and piano came with lyrics became memorable to listener as its melody, in the verse
