Description

Skyscr Skyscraper aper – Demi Lov Lovato ato Skies are crying, I am watching Catching teardrops in my hands Only silence, as it's ending Like we never had a chance Do you have to make me feel like There's nothing left of me? You can take everything I have You can break everything I am Like I'm made of glass Like I'm made of paper Go on and try to tear me down I will be rising from the ground Like a skyscraper, like a skyscraper As the smoke clears, I awaken And untangle you from me Would it make you, feel better To watch me while I bleed? All my windows still are broken But I'm standing on my feet You can take everything I have You can break everything I am Like I'm made of glass Like I'm made of paper Go on and try to tear me down I will be rising from the ground Like a skyscraper, like a skyscraper Go run,… You can take everything I have You can break everything I am Like I'm made of glass Like I'm made of paper, oh-oh Go on and try to tear me down I will be rising from the ground Like a skyscraper, like a skyscraper Go Run…

One of the literary devices I saw was personification. Personification is giving human qualities to something that is not human. In skyscraper Lovato says " Skies are crying." It is used to emphasize the rain. It means that there is sad, gloomy pouring rain. Without personification you would not be able to emphasize as much. The entire song is an extended metaphor of struggle and overcoming. Here the singer has used oxymoron in the line ‘its long way down, but I am closer to the clouds up, here’. The writer has used two opposites ‘up and down’ in the same verse. In the lines, ‘Skies are crying’, skies are personified. In the verse ‘you can break everything I am, like I’m made of glass’, has a simile. Here the singer is comparing herself to glass and a piece of paper to show her vulnerability. "But I am closer to the clouds up here" is another example of imagery because it forms a picture of being high up while while her past is underneath her.
