Description: ECON 252 is an introductory undergraduate course. It covers Microeconomic theories related to consumer behavior, firm behavior, different market structures (monopoly, oligopoly and a competitive market), and applying these theories to a range of policy questions.

Course Goals At the end of the course you should be able to: 1. Use supply and demand diagrams to analyze the impact of overall changes in supply and demand on price and quantity. 2. Solove consumer’s utility maximization problem graphically. 3. Calculate producer and consumer surplus. 4. Analyze the behavior of firms in monopoly, oligopoly and a competitive market 5. Use economic tools to analyze economic policies

Withdraws: The deadline for withdrawing from this course with a “W” is Friday, March 15, 2019.

Attendance: Attendance is required. Absence from class will be excused only for the reasons stated in the university policy: https://arp.nmsu.edu/4-46/.

Exams: There will be three exams with equal weights. These exam will be held on Monday, February 18; Wednesday, March 20; and Wednesday, May 8 (at 10:30 am to 12:30 pm).

Grading: Grades are calculated as follows: Exam 1: 20% Exam 2: 20% Exam 3: 20% Quizzes: 30% Attendance and class participation: 10% The final score is used to calculate the grade as follows. A 100 % B < 90.0 % C < 80.0 % D < 70.0 % F < 60.0 %
