Squares: 4 ideas that, in general, square (fit) with your thinking - God’s mission is to rescue, redeem and restore the lost world (Cartwright, Guiterrez and Hulshof, pg37). God made humankind perfect, and he had the perfect relationship with us. Once the fall of mankind happened, we lost all of that and God is now trying to fix our relationship with him. - God wrote the Bible. He may not have written it physically, but he inspired every word in the Bible. The men who wrote the scripture were inspirited by the Holy spirit (Cartwright, Guiterrez and Hulshof pg48). 2 Peter 1:20-21 supports the idea that the men were inspired by the Holy Spirit. - God did not give us a list of commandments that we need to follow to be saved. The commands are important to our relationship with God but not the end all be all our salvation. (Cartwright, Guiterrez and Hulshof pg38) - Gospel gives us freedom. The gospel fulfills the prophecy of the Old Testament when Jesus Christ comes into the storyline. The Gospel is life changing. (Cartwright, Guiterrez and Hulshof pg 39) Triangles: 3 angles you have never considered before - I never considered the fact that the KJV of the Bible was redone so many times to fit language but the version being used today is from 1769 (Cartwright, Guiterrez and Hulshof pg58). - The Message Bible may not be as reliable as many make it seem to be. Since The Message Bible is a paraphrased version. - God allowed the personalities of each writer to show through and that is why the Gospels are similar but not identical. (Cartwright, Guiterrez and Hulshof pg48) Circles: 2 questions that are circling in your mind - Why did God allow the personalities of the writers to show through? - How do we explain to people that just because men are involved there are no errors, after telling them that sin is a thing because humans are sinful and error-prone? Hearts: 1 idea that you loved. - I loved the idea that when we believe we are “inspired” by the scripture it is the Holy Spirit illuminating the truth to us found in the Bible. (Cartwright, Guiterrez and Hulshof pg48)
