Title of the Chosen Article: The new globalization 1. Based on the article, is globalization a process, a condition, or an ideology? Explain your thoughts in paragraph form. Do this in not less than eight (8) sentences. Write it inside the submission box.

The article describes globalization as a process since it addresses the former and current technological advances made in transportation dating back to 19th century until now. This process made it easier for everyone to move from one place to another and to transport goods using steamships and railways to and from different regions leading to a rise in cross-border trade. After the World War II in 1945, innovations for transportation has been made again that further broadened trades across the world using land, sea, and air transport thus improving trading goods. As people from different countries continued to work together, they witnessed an increase in world trade leading to the establishment of World Trade Organization, a coordinated global financial system that definitely marked globalization. As the globalization goes on, governments from certain countries started to be alarmed by how fast information spreads out. Their efforts in blocking citizens to information have become inevitable because of the widely available access to internet and social media platforms. Aside from the benefits of easier transport and access to information, I am pleased to be informed that after such a long process driven by international trade, investment and aiding by information technology, lives of the people greatly improved due to a myriad job openings coming from various businesses. This opinion editorial recounted how the lives of Filipinos have greatly improved due to the opportunities that they were presented with, that come from globalization. As for that reason, Filipinos now are able to obtain a variety of inexpensive products that they need for their basic needs. This article corroborates the definition of globalization as a process by describing the growing technological improvements that have been made throughout history and how it affected the multitude. 2. On whose perspective is the definition of globalization anchored on (political scientist, economist, or culture and communications experts)? Give at least two (2) reasons to support your choice. Explain your thoughts in paragraph form. Do this in not less than 10 sentences. Write it inside the submission box.

I think the article was written in the perspective of an economist as he talks about the four waves of globalization that includes the increase of the share of world trade in global GDP from 1800 to 1914, technological advancements that increased world trade after World War II, establishment of a coordinated global financial system, and the global financial crisis of 2008 that provoked a slowdown in world trade. Globalization on an economist point of view is about the increasing interdependence of the world economies due to the escalation cross-border trade of goods and services, technology, and information and it fits in retrospect of the four waves of globalization that the author has mentioned. The rapid globalization of the world's economies in recent years is primarily focused on the rapid growth of science and technology since the world war, has resulted from the environment in which the international economic structure has expanded rapidly across the world and has evolved on the basis of a growing cross-border division of labor, which has penetrated to the level of production chains within businesses on an international level.

Economic globalization is seen in global and regional organizations and trade blocs such as the WTO, TPP, EU, and ASEAN. Due to the fast speed of trade from the technological advances made before, a coordinated global financial system called World Trade Organization has been established, alongside the rising technology, further liberalizing trade, spreading out of information, and communications became possible. Some advantages of trade bloc includes the larger markets produced by the trade blocs allow businesses to take advantage of economies of scale, since the overall cost of each produced good tends to fall as production rises, this contributes to reduced prices for retailers. In terms of market efficiency, rising demand and tariff removal, which can act as a price floor, bring down prices and allow for higher consumption, this increases market efficiency as it reduces excess burden. As the time goes on, the rate of world poverty decreased and the rate of employment increased as well as the global GDP. However, Philippine Institute for Development Studies described that the new globalization is marked with a slowdown in world trade by the global financial recession of 2008 and this includes economic restructuring, worsening inequality, dampened international cooperation, and weakening of social cohesion and trust. What’s truly disappointing is that instead of different countries coming together to cooperate in solving problems in the global recession, they just focus on the interest of their own motherland, instigating more hate, egotistism, and ignorance....
