You must submit your visual presentation along with one page of study notes and citations to blackboard the day before your presentation. Please include ALL of the names of your group members (FIRST AND LAST), only one group member submits the assignment. Background: When large companies make products for human consumption there are many people involved from the employees at head office, to the farmers hired to grow key ingredients, to the communities affected by factories, increased traffic and environmental impact all the way to the end consumer using the product in their dayto-day life. These people are called stakeholders and they can either affect or be affected by the way a company does business. Increasingly, companies are creating Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policies, which acknowledge that, as a result of their business, they have a social, environmental and/or economic impact. To offset this impact or to make improvements in the environment or the lives of those affected, they institute projects or initiatives. Some companies are more successful and transparent about their initiatives than others. Description of Assignment: First, choose two personal care/cosmetic companies that promote a CSR policy. 1) For the presentation proposal: Summarize, in your own words, the CSR policies you found on the two company websites and why you chose them. Which stakeholders are they considering in their projects? Understand their policies/projects and research whether or not these activities have come under any external scrutiny (in the media or academic journals). For the presentation you will decide which company is the best corporate citizen but for now you are only gathering resources. Choose 3 or 4 resources that you think will help you decide on the best corporate policy – look at media articles, journal articles, or other documentation that is relevant to the two company policies and summaries them. Rubric:

2) For the presentation: Prepare a 10-15 minute presentation with slides. Building on your proposal, you will share the two companies with the class, their projects and initiatives – what good are they doing in the world? What do they promote/market about themselves that they hope will influence public perception of them? Discuss which stakeholders they are targeting and how they are affected by company projects. In your groups opinion, based on the research you conducted, which company has a more effective approach to meeting CSR goals? Share key research findings you uncovered that you have built your opinion on. You will show the class what interesting issues have emerged from your research. Rubric: Evaluation Clarity in describing the companies CSR policies/projects and stakeholders involved. Extensive research shared with class

Example: TOMS footwear has a CSR policy with many initiatives such as their One-forOne project. One example of how the media has scrutinized them is this article from VOX who claim their One-for-One project is not helping communities in an impactful way. Based on this and other reports it is up to the individual to decide for themselves....
