What were the major challenges to sustainability you identified?

- The main challenge that was identified about cosmetics sustainability was the amount of chemicals and pollutants that are being released into our air and every day products. -

Cancer

the companies producing these products have no restrictions made against them to prevent them from using these chemicals. Another for companies to use these harmful chemicals is that they are way cheaper to produce, overall gaining them better profit margins on there products. These companies are earning money from the destroying the environment and the health of all humans because of these products being created.

What relationships existed between population and environmental conditions that were particularly important? -

One major draw back on the relations between the population and the environmental conditions is the fact that the government has but any regulations on chemicals being placed into these products. Since there are no regulations companies and put what ever chemicals, they want into there product to make it cheaper for them.

What novel ways could you identify to help reduce our ecological footprint? -

reduce the amount of chemicals put into these everyday products.

-

packaging, companies use crazy amounts of plastic and metals to package their items to look more appealing. This becomes an issue for the environment because the fuels burned to create all of it is released into our air.

-

he FDA needs to become much more active in the safety and health of the products being produced. Since the consumers are only able to buy the things that are supplied to them, the FDA and producers should increase their mindfulness and begin producing products that are more sustainable and healthier for public use.

After watching the video “Story of the Cosmetics”, the main challenge to sustainability that I identified was the amount of harmful chemical that are being put in our products. Chemicals linked to cancer are being put into products such as sunscreen, lipstick and even baby shampoo. Carcinogens, neurotoxins, reproductive toxins are an example of some of the harmful chemicals that are being used in the cosmetics industry. The companies that are making these products have no restrictions against them from using harmful chemicals. The cosmetics industry is making the rules and then deciding whether or not to follow them. Companies are using these chemicals because they generate greater profit margins and are cheaper to produce. The health of the all humans and the environment are being destroyed due to the corporate greed of these companies. The lack of regulation from the government and the cosmetics industry is an important drawback that I noticed between the population and the environment. The government barely has any restrictions on the chemicals being put into our products. Companies will use whatever chemicals that will make their product cheaper to produce and have no regard for the health of their consumers and the environment. The FDA has only banned 8 out of the 12,000 chemicals that can be harmful to humans and the environment. This shows that minimal action has been taken by the government to protect the consumers. There are many novel ways in which we can reduce our ecological footprint. One simple solution is to simply reduce the amount of chemicals being put into these products. This can be done by more regulations and banning of harmful toxins. The FDA needs to become more involved in health and safety of the products being put out in the market. If there is no government intervention, companies will simply continue to do whatever that will generate them the most profits....
