Strategic Human Resource Management Plan Kristen Travasos Grand Canyon University: MGT-434 December 7, 2020

2 Strategic HRM Plan Introduction The strategic human resource management plan for Louisiana Poboy’s is to decide what can be done to help make the restaurant stand out from all of the other restaurants in the surrounding area and help bring in more business and revenue for the company. This plan will be based on the SWOT analysis and the SMART goals model to meet the objectives of the company to help it become a more successful business. Organization Summary Louisiana Poboy’s is a locally owned business in the heart of Lafayette, Louisiana that was founded in 2000 (Louisiana Poboy’s, n.d) . The stockholders of this restaurant are the customers and the funding is based on the revenue that comes through. Louisiana Poboy’s is a very small business that consists of the owners of the company, the managers, and the employees. Lafayette, Louisiana is known for its incredible food; therefore, there are many options when it comes to restaurants and local food stops. In order to find the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats, a SWOT analysis will be taken place along with a description of the short and long- term goals for the company using a SMART format. The goal of this plan is to come up with a way to help this business stand out from all of the other restaurant and fast food options in the surrounding area.

Mission: Louisiana Poboy’s strives to provide quality, authentic Cajun food to the residents of Lafayette, Louisiana while also providing customers with great service to make them feel at home. Vision: The vision is to expand the restaurant into a bigger business in order to be more successful and bring in more revenue for the business.

3 Strategic HRM Plan SWOT Analysis This is the SWOT (Strength, Weakness, Opportunity, and Threat) analysis for the restaurant, Louisiana Poboy’s. 1. Strengths: a. Loyal customers b. Authentic, locally owned Cajun restaurant that serves unique, cultural food c. Good business reputation 2. Weaknesses: a. The same menu has been around for around 20 years with very few new items b. Not enough advertising c. Lack of proper management 3. Opportunities: a. Expansion of advertising via social media b. Technological advances to help orders come out faster c. New services such as delivery, catering, etc. 4. Threats: a. Poor economy b. Newer restaurants in surrounding area c. Decrease in sales due to COVID pandemic Three HR Goals That Fulfill SMART Criteria 1. Create better ways to advertise for the restaurant to help it stand out among other restaurants.

4 Strategic HRM Plan o S (Specific)- Increase traffic via advertising. Determine which media outlet can generate the most traffic at a fair, reasonable price. Talk to news outlets, radio stations, television stations, newspapers, etc. When consumers feel connected to an advertisement they are more likely to frequently visit your business (Hobbs, 2016). o M (Measurable)- Count customers and track how many come in every day and also do the same with gross revenue. It will also be a good idea to have the customers take a poll to see where they heard about Louisiana Poboy’s and offer them an incentive on their next meal if they take the poll. o A (Attainable)- Yes, this plan is attainable if a tracking method is properly developed. (See above) o R (Realistic)- Yes, this plan is realistic, and it is important in the overall scheme of priorities. o T (Timely)- The plan would take place over a year from Janruary1, 2020 to December 31, 2021. It can also be measured by weeks or months to give clues before waiting the whole year to see if this is successful. 2. Offer more services such as catering, delivery, and curbside pickup. o S (Specific)- Offer services such as catering delivery and curbside pickup to get more business from larger companies and organizations. It would also attract more customers looking for a fast place to pick up food from without making contact with too many people. An estimated 25% of customers or shoppers would opt for curbside pickups from local businesses this year (Miller, 2020).

5 Strategic HRM Plan o M (Measurable)- Employees can keep track of how many catering, delivery, and curbside orders being taken and see how much gross revenue is coming in from these services. o A (Attainable)- Yes, this plan is attainable if a tracking method is properly developed. (See above) o R (Realistic)- Yes, this plan is realistic, and it is important in the overall scheme of priorities. o T (Timely)- The plan would take place over a year from Janruary1, 2020 to December 31, 2021. It can also be measured by weeks or months to give clues before waiting the whole year to see if this is successful. 3. Come up with new, creative, and different menu items to stand out from other restaurants. o S (Specific)- Come up with new menu items and decide what these menu items would consist of. o M (Measurable)- Keep track of how many new menu items are being sold and ask the customers whether or not they enjoyed them. o A (Attainable)- Yes, this plan is attainable if a tracking method is properly developed. (See above) o R (Realistic)- Yes, this plan is realistic, and it is important in the overall scheme of priorities. o T (Timely)- The plan would take place over a year from Janruary1, 2020 to December 31, 2021. New menu items would be introduced every three months.

HR Goals and Strategic Plan

6 Strategic HRM Plan The human resource goals and the strategic plans do, in fact, align with each other. In order for the strategic plans to be successful the human resource goals, advertising, new services, and new menu items need to take place. These changes will help make the business more successful and bring in new sources of revenue. By accomplishing the strategic plans and the human resource goals, it can help the business achieve its long term goals. Proposal In order for these plans to be put in action, it would require hiring more employees to meet the human resource goals and organizational goals. The business would need more employees in order to provide delivery and curbside pickup services. It would also need more outlets for advertising, such as radio and television stations. Finally, Louisiana Poboy’s would need creative and innovative ideas to come up with new menu items and specials in order to attract more customers. Conclusion In conclusion, this plan would be very beneficial for the business, Louisiana Poboy’s, as it could potentially bring in many new customers and increase the gross revenue. These are some of the few strategies that this company could take in order to be more successful and potentially grow into a bigger franchise. These ideas and strategies will attract new customers and encourage them to come to this restaurant rather than the other food options in the surrounding area.
