student policies...

Description

Pt.1- There are many academic integrity violations one of these violations go into detail about cheating. Using unauthorized resources and materials and helping other people cheat is a violation. Essentially saying that if you can't use notes on a quiz or test is cheating, people telling you the answers would be a violation(goes both ways). Fabricating and plagiarizing other peoples work isn't only a violation to GCUs policy, but it's also federally illegal! If you had a research paper you can not copy and paste, you cant even just change a few words; i'm pretty sure it would still be plagiarizing if you don't put it in your own words. There are many types of policies you are capable of violating besides academic integrity policies. Another type of these are called “the code of conduct”. Failing to cooperate with officials in a university investigation is a violation. I think what this is trying to get at is if maybe with allegations of selling alcohol to other students or maybe having been cheating on exams the university will conduct an investigation; failing to cooperate may have more devastating consequences. As all students and staff at GCU know, we are a dry campus. It would only make sense that distributing, possessing, and being under the influence of alcohol on university property or during any gcu activity on/off campus is a code of conduct violation. Which means you can not have any alcohol on campus at any time for any occasion, Even if you got “hammered” off campus and then came back still intoxicated could be a violation. Pt.2- *The academic integrity section discusses academic dishonesty. One area of dishonesty is plagiarism. Define plagiarism in your own words.* Plagiarizing to me could mean the same thing in different ways. When somebody does the work in writing something or putting research into anything and somebody else wants to “steal” and use that work as their own should be plagiarizing or atleast the gist of plagiarizing in most people's words. *Why do you think students plagiarize?* I think students might plagiarize for many reasons intentionally and unintentionally. I don't think students or most people in general realize that it's actually illegal. It's possible that maybe they're lazy or frustrated, they could even just want to get the best grade they can. I'm sure at least half of these people have the right intentions, but it is not what's right. Only the people committing the crime will know why they are doing it. *Describe how students can avoid academic dishonesty, in group work or as an individual?* There are definitely a lot of ways people can avoid academic dishonesty. For one, maybe don't forage or plagiarize other people's work. Regarding group work I’m sure if you tell your instructors that you worked together on an assignment they would possibly be okay with that as long as there weren't specific directions to work alone. This whole topic just comes back to integrity. People with real integrity don't plagiarize and if they do, they should at least be honest about it....
