Summary of Dean Ornish’s “The Myth to High Protein Diets” Contrary to popular belief, diets in high protein are not the only way to keep your body healthy and strong. Researchers have been telling us to eat less meat and fats to stay healthy, yet in the past couple decades Americans have gone in the opposite direction. There are many risks to eating protein from animals. A correlation has been found between diets with animal protein and an increased death rate from cancer and type 2 Diabetes. A chemical called trimethylamine N-oxide clogs arteries, which can be found in both egg yolks and red meat. Along with a tumorforming sugar called Neu5Gc. In order to lower the risk of getting chronic diseases a plant-based diet would be best stated by the Preventive Medicine Research Institute. These changes to diet greatly decrease the chances of coronary heart disease and severe chest pains while also improving blood flow to the heart. An individuals healthier genes can be manipulated by plantbased diets as well. Not only is a plant-based diet better for oneself, it is also better for the Earth as it avoids unnecessary resources being put into the high demand for red meats.
