Course Description: In this course, the principals of modern medical imaging are introduced. Topics include xray, CT, nuclear imaging, ultrasound and MRI. Emphasis is placed on the basic physics of different modalities, instrumentation, image reconstruction and image properties. Course Pre-requisites, Co-requisites, and/or Other Restrictions: Pre-requisites: BMEN 2320 Course Materials Textbook: “Introduction to Medical Imaging” by Smith and Web
Course Learning Objectives Student outcomes followed by ABET classification include: 1. Perform quantitative image analysis to solve for image characteristics such as signal-to-noise, contrast, dynamic range and resolution. (SO 1) 2. Describe the distinct instrumentation utilized to record signals and produce images for different modalities. (SO 1) 3. Recognize ethical challenges related to imaging procedures in clinical trials and biomedical research. (SO 4)
