Chapter readings o To be successful in this course, you must read the textbook! We will cover 11 total chapters, with 1 or 2 chapters covered each week. Mastery Training o You will complete mastery training for each chapter. Mastery Training has three goal levels: Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3. In order to meet each goal level (and obtain full credit), you will engage in distributed practice over a set number of days. The distributed practice is designed for you to study a set of terms in short chunks of time over a period of several days. PLEASE NOTE: You cannot complete mastery training in one sitting! CogLab Experiments o You will complete a total of 3 CogLab Experiments. These assignments will allow you to experience how research in cognitive psychology is conducted (and they’re fun too!). Research Paper o You will write a research paper for Frontiers for Young Minds. The instructions for this assignment will be provided in a separate document. Please check out the website for Frontiers for Young Minds at https://kids.frontiersin.org. Exams o There will be 3 regular exams. Each exam will include 45 multiple-choice questions and 2 short-answer questions. ▪ Exam 1 covers chapters 1 – 3 ▪ Exam 2 covers chapters 4 – 7 ▪ Exam 3 covers chapters 8-9 & 12-13

In other words, your grade will be reduced by 50% for turning in an assignment late. Extra Credit Opportunities: You may earn up to 10 extra credit points by participating in research through the psychology department. For every 30 minutes of participation, you will earn 1 extra credit point. You can sign up for participation through the Sona System at https://lsuhumanresearch.sonasystems.com. If you do not have a user account, you will need to register for one. Pay close attention to the requirements for each study as some have special restrictions and/or requirements. If you are interested in earning extra credit but cannot participate in research studies, you can earn up to 10 extra credit points by writing article reviews, which will be accepted via “turnitin”. Instructions for this alternative form of extra credit will be provided up Moodle. **Any extra credit points will be added to the total number of points earned in the course** Student Code of Conduct: Excerpt taken from the LSU Code of Student Conduct, Section 8.0, page 18

8.1 Academic Misconduct A. High standards of academic integrity are crucial for the University to fulfill its educational mission. To uphold these standards, procedures have been established to address academic misconduct. As a guiding principle, the University expects Students to model the principles outlined in the University Commitment to Community, especially as it pertains to accepting responsibility for their actions and holding themselves and others to the highest standards of performance in an academic environment. For example, LSU students are responsible for submitting work for evaluation that reflects their individual performance and should not assume any assignment given by any professor is a “group” effort or work unless specifically noted on the assignment. In all other cases, students must assume the work is to be done independently. If the student has a question regarding the instructor’s expectations for individual assignments, projects, tests, or other items submitted for a grade, it is the student’s responsibility to seek clarification.

4 Any Student found to have committed or to have attempted to commit Academic Misconduct is subject to the disciplinary sanctions set forth in Section 9.0. B. An instructor may not assign a disciplinary grade, such as an "F" or zero on an assignment, test, examination, or course as a sanction for admitted or suspected Academic Misconduct in lieu of formally charging the student with Academic Misconduct under the provisions of this Code. All grades assigned as a result of accountability action must be approved by the Dean of Students or designee.

Students are expected to complete all assignments and exams on their own. Written assignments will be uploaded to Moodle and will be processed through plagiarism detection software. Violation of the student code of conduct will be reported to university authorities. It is your responsibility to understand the code of student conduct, which can be found at the following link: https://www.lsu.edu/saa/students/codeofconduct.php Diversity Statement: “LSU strives to create an inclusive, respectful, intellectually challenging climate that embraces individual difference in race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, age, spirituality, socio-economic status, disability, family status, experiences, opinions, and ideas.” For more information regarding Diversity at LSU, please visit the website for the Office of Diversity, or contact them in 135 Thomas Boyd Hall, by phone 225-578-5736, or by email: [email protected]. For more information regarding Diversity in the Department of Psychology, please visit the website for the Committee on Diversity and Outreach in Psychology (CDOP): http://www.lsu.edu/hss/psychology/about/diversity.php Special Needs: Please contact the Office of Disability Services, 112 Johnston Hall, Phone: 225/578-5919, TDD: 225/578-2600, E- mail: [email protected] if you have any special needs for class or for testing.
