Expectations Because we function as a community where we all have many demands on our time, respecting the time of others is crucial. To this end, all members of the Departments of Economics’ community need reasonable expectations about how time is allocated outside of class. Faculty try to give students ample advance notice about deadlines and to honor times when students have extracurricular activities. We ask that students extend the same courtesy to faculty, who also have additional demands on their time. So, if you email us, expecting an instantaneous response is not reasonable. Instead, expect a response within a few days. However, please note that response times can be longer over weekends and holiday. If it’s an emergency, faculty will try to get back to you sooner. A polite reminder follow-up is a good idea if the professor doesn’t respond in a few days. You may ask for an individual appoint via Zoom and we will try our best to accommodate you. Note, though, that this may not always be possible. Thank you for your understanding. Policies All work must be your own. To copy (or borrow) from other sources, the text, or your classmates is not acceptable. Turning in work that is not your own is regarded as cheating and will be punished (at a minimum, a zero on the assignment; at a maximum an F in the course and referral for disciplinary action). Homework assignments should generally be done on your own. For quantitative and graphical problems’ questions, I encourage work in groups, but your write ups must be done independently. What this means is that you are allowed to discuss together how to approach problems. What this does not mean is one person working through the problem and the other person taking the write up and using it as a basis for his/her own answer. Under no circumstances may you look at another person’s solutions. Both will still be punished, so I strongly advise against showing your solutions to others. Homework All homework should be in either Excel (or another acceptable spreadsheet program) or Word (or another acceptable word processing program) format. No handwritten homework or PDF files accepted. Assignments are expected to be handed in via Sakai on the date assigned before class begins and will be evaluated for completeness and effort. Please identify which chapter is included in each submission. Please submit all assignments for each day in one file only. No late assignments will be accepted.

Class Participation All lecture sessions should be attended both physically and mentally. If you must miss a class for a valid reason, please let the instructor know as soon as possible. The lectures will be on Zoom and will be recorded for asynchronous viewing, but not participation points. The instructor will award points based on your participation, not just attendance alone. Zoom Richard Savich is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.
