Deep head – medial surface of lateral plate of pterygoid process and pyramidal process of palatine bone; superficial head – tuberosity of the maxilla and pyramidal process of palatine bone Upper head – roof of infratemporal fossa; lower head – lateral surface of lateral plate of the pterygoid process
