Chapter V 1. Describe Genji’s first encounter with Shonagon and the girl she looks after. Genji was watching the little girl beautiful grandmother which was a nun praise bhdu while her beautiful look alike daughter played around the are. A sparrow flew away making the little girl sad, genji try to speake to shonagon which was the little girl nurse and she got off and walked off 2. Who is Genji currently in love with? Fujibutso/ ten year old girl? 3. What does Genji plan for the girl even before meeting her? He wanted to get closw to her, raise her ,a nd train her in accordance with his own desires and tatstes, and then make her his wife. 4. How does Genji communicate his intentions to the nun and bishop? He has a woman messanger communicate, he sent poems 5. What is the nun and bishop’s response? The bishop was forbiningly sincere making Genji feel small The nun was shocked and confused, relectant to grant it, thought the request was unappropriate Both came to conclusion to give the girl 4-5 years but genji was unhappy

Does Genji worry about his reputation after he begins to visit Murasaki? Yes, he dosent want to be sen as a lecher since the girl is so young 10. What does Genji do when he discovers that Murasaki will be taken to her father’s house? He comes to her, wake her up, pick her up , put her into a carriage to take him to his quarters so they can communicate so she wont go to her fathers village and be far away, shongon her nurse goes with her....
