Description

The Annual Report Group Project Financial Accounting 4A Christina Wyneken, Instructor Select two companies to compare and contrast. Both companies should be in the same line of business and should be traded on a national stock exchange. For example, you could choose Nabisco and General Mills or General Motors and Ford. Obtain the annual report information for each of the companies for the same or similar time period. If the two companies have different year ends, chose the ones that are closest to each other. If you cannot get the most current financial statement, then use the most current available to you. Financial data can be found on the company website or on www.finance.yahoo.com or www.money.msn.com. If you cannot find the financial information, you may try the website of the Security Exchange Commission (www.sec.gov) as a last resort. This is the government agency that collects all of the financial data from the publicly traded companies. All annual reports are listed in the EDGAR database on form 10-K within this website. Prepare an introduction on each of your two companies that includes the companies’ history, size, location and any other information that is of interest. Analyze each of your two companies using vertical analysis of the balance sheet and the income statement. Also analyze at least nine of the ratios discussed in chapter 15. This analysis is mainly concerned with an interpretation of the financial data that you are assembling. Simply calculating the financial information is not sufficient. Discuss the differences and similarities between the two companies. Draw conclusions about the financial condition of each. Form a group with 4-5 members. As soon as your group is formed and your companies are selected, please email the instructor with the members’ names and the names of the companies to be analyzed. No two groups may use the same two companies, so first come, first selected. Prepare a report covering the analysis performed. The report should include a cover page including the title, all group members’ names with the section they contributed to, course number, and date submitted. The report should be typed and double-spaced using 11- or 12-point font with margins not to exceed one inch. Proofread your work, as writing technique (grammar, spelling, etc.) will be considered.

To ensure equal participation, the instructor reserves the right to allocate points differently among group members if the situation arises....
